Alumni Show Ardent Support to Academy of Film Activity

Organised by Academy of Film of School of Communication, the 14th Global Chinese Universities Student Film and Television Festival Award Ceremony was attended by many alumni who showed support to their buddies and also their alma mater. Participating alumni included but not limited to Dr. Justin Chiu (Doctor of Social Sciences, honoris causa; Sociology), Patrick Siu (Geography; Media Management), Alfred Cheung (Chinese Language and Literature), Lawrence Cheng (Communication), Lam Chiu-wing (Chinese Language and Literature), Steve Chan (Communication), as well as Rebecca Chan (Communication) and Tsang Chi-ho (Communication) who were masters of the ceremonies.

At the event held on 26 October, a total of 17 awards were presented, with HKBU fresh graduates Chen Nan winning the Best Script Award for Drama in both the Cross Category and Local Category, and Lee Pik-shan taking home the Best Documentary Award in the Local Category.

Alumnus Sunny Wong Shares Management Tips on Two Occasions

Alumnus Sunny Wong (Business Management) shared management tips at a programme of Metro Radio and a symposium entitled “Management as a Liberal Art Symposium”, jointly organized by Peter F. Drucker Academy and Centennial College in July and September respectively. Hosted by alumnus Dr. Royce Yuen (Communication), alumnus Wong shared with audience his wisdom and experiences for excelling at work on these two occasions.

Alumni Patrick Siu and Rebecca Chan Run Social Enterprise “Sounds Great”

Alumni Patrick Siu (Geography; Media Management) and Rebecca Chan (Communication) join hands to run a social enterprise “Sounds Great”, producing audio books to benefit elderly and the underprivileged with free entertainment.

Other than alumni Patrick Siu being the Chairman and Rebecca Chan the CEO, the organization also gains the support from various alumni including Dr. William Leung (Honorary University Fellow; English Language & Literature), Dr. Justin Chiu (Doctor of Social Sciences, honoris causa; Sociology), Dr. Pamela Chan (Doctor of Social Sciences, honoris causa), and Lawrence Cheng (Communication) who act as consultants of “Sounds Great”.

A housewarming party was also held on 3 November 2017, with the presence of President Chin, various alumni and friends to celebrate their recent move to a brand new office and the headship of alumna Rebecca Chan.

Alumnus Jacky Xu Shares His Work Experience with Freshmen of Department of Computer Science

Organised by the Department of Computer Science, an Orientation Night was held on 26 September on Shaw Campus to welcome freshmen.

The Orientation Night was well attended by over 150 students with alumnus Jacky Xu (Computer Science) as special guest to share his work experience.

In Memory of Alumna Dr. Vivienne Luk

The University is profoundly saddened by the passing of alumna Dr. Vivienne Luk, former Head of the Department of Management and Director of the Wing Lung Bank International Institute of Business Development (IIBD) of the School of Business, on 29 October.

A graduate of the then Hong Kong Baptist College, Dr. Luk first joined her alma mater in 1972 as Assistant Lecturer in the then Department of Secretarial Management and took up different positions during her 42 years of dedicated service in HKBU.

Dr. Luk was a key contributor to the development of the School of Business and demonstrated a strong commitment to internationalism, community engagement and student development. The University convey its heartfelt condolences to her family.

Funeral ceremony of the late Dr. Luk will be held at International Funeral Parlour in Hunghom with details as below:

2 December
