Dr Andrew Sutherland began lecturing in Music at HKBU in 2019 and will make his debut performance in Hong Kong with the Hong Kong Philharmonic in April. He will be narrating the BBC Planet Earth II concert alongside fellow Australian, conductor Vanessa Scammell.
This performance is special to Dr Sutherland for several reasons. He has been lecturing on Film Music at HKBU and previously at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts. His lectures cover, among others, the music of Hans Zimmer, the composer of a number of iconic movie scores. Dr Sutherland is also passionate about environmental issues and the coming performance is much more than simply enjoying incredible music performed by a world-renowned orchestra. Audiences at the concert will also be listening to David Attenborough's script which highlights the plight of the natural environment under increasing threat. Dr Sutherland is usually seen in front of orchestras, but as a tenor soloist. He recently returned to Perth, Australia in December 2019 where he performed an oratorio by Fanny Hensel, Nach den Bildern der Bibel, together with the University of West Australia Choral Society. “Narrating the words of legendary David Attenborough will be an enormous privilege,” said Dr Sutherland.
The performances will take place in April 2020 at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Concert Hall on Friday 3rd, 8:00pm, Saturday 4th, 8:00pm, and Sunday 5th, 3:00pm. Please click here to view more details of the performances. |
