Sponsored by HKBU Century Club (the Club), the third AI x HK OpenCup (the OpenCup) organised by HKBU Department of Computer Science was held successfully on 6 July. Dr Marianna Tsang (Secretarial Management), Patron and President of the Club was invited to be the officiating guest at the award presentation ceremony and as a member of judging panel of the OpenCup.

The OpenCup 2024 serves as an innovation-enriched platform, fostering the growth of young talents in tackling global challenges through AI technologies. The event attracted 20 teams from different secondary schools with over 100 participants. This year’s event evolved into a one-day Generative AI (GenAI) bootcamp with immersive learning workshops and competitions. After a full day intensive training, the participants reflected on how GenAI technologies could be harnessed to solve social issues in Hong Kong.

Aligning with the theme of leveraging AI technologies to address pressing challenges in Hong Kong, a new “Merit Award for Sustainable Development” was established. The team from Diocesan Girls’ School won this award with their project, “Combating Food Waste.”

To provide financial support for teaching, research and student development projects that would contribute to the betterment and sustainable growth of the University, the Club has established the Century Club Sponsorship Scheme. For more information on the Scheme, please click here.
