HKBU Alumni Association of the Greater Bay Area Attends the Kick-off Ceremony of a Chapter in Foshan (under preparation) and the Roadshow of Foshan Industrial Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship

Alumna Cindy Li (Corporate Governance and Directorship), Secretary of HKBU Alumni Association of the Greater Bay Area (HKBUGBAAA), attended on 29 September a kick-off ceremony of a chapter (under preparation) under the Guangdong Western Returned Scholars Association. On the same day, she also attended a roadshow. Both events, staged at the Foshan National Torch Innovation Pioneering Park, were held to promote industrial technology innovation and entrepreneurship in Foshan.

During the kick-off ceremony, HKBUGBAAA, as represented by alumna Cindy Li, joined other organisations to participate in the signing ceremony of the partnership agreement, which aims at pooling together the efforts and resources of various enterprises in Guangdong, whether big or small, in the promotion of knowledge transfer and the acceleration of the transformation of science and technology achievements by world talents for practical uses in Foshan.

Supported by HKBU Alumni Association of the Greater Bay Area, the HKBU MBA (China) Alumni Association Shenzhen Chapter organised the August session of “BU Talks” on 28 August. The event was attended online by nearly 300 alumni and friends. With “The Evolution and Trends of the Consumer Goods Industry” as its theme, this online sharing session was hosted by student Yu Yafei (Business Administration), President of the HKBU MBA (China) Alumni Association Shenzhen Chapter. Alumni Professor Sunny Wong (Business Management), Adjunct Professor of School of Business and Chairman of the HKBU Foundation Alumni Committee and Zhang Jianming (Business Administration), General Manager of Shenzhen Red Bull Industrial Co., Ltd. and the Second President of the HKBU MBA (China) Alumni Association Shenzhen Chapter, were invited as guest speakers to share their broad experience in the consumer goods market. The sharing session was well received by the participants, who said they had gained a lot from the speakers’ insights.

Corporate Governance Crisis Diagnostic Seminar cum Alumni & Friends Reunion

Jointly organised by the Corporate Governance and Directorship Society (the Society), Department of Accountancy and Law of the School of Business and Centre for Corporate Governance and Financial Policy of Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU), the “Corporate Governance Crisis Diagnostic Seminar cum Alumni & Friends Reunion” was successfully held on campus on 4 September. Professor Simon Ho, President of The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong as well as the Founding Honorary Advisor of the Society, graced the event by his presence and delivered the opening keynote.

During the seminar, Dr Davy Wu, Programme Director of MSc in Corporate Governance and Compliance and the Honorary Advisor of the Society, alumni Ken Chan (Corporate Governance and Directorship) and Alex Lam (Corporate Governance and Compliance) together shared with participants their insights into the case review on Luckin Coffee Inc. The highlight of the seminar was the panel discussion on “Morality tale of Luckin Coffee Inc.” led by panelists Professor Simon Ho, Dr Davy Wu, alumni Ken Chan and Simon Lee (Corporate Governance and Directorship), and moderated by alumnus Alex Chung (Corporate Governance and Directorship).

Following the seminar, there was also a Letter of Understanding (LOU) signing ceremony by the Society and the HKBU MSc in Corporate Governance and Compliance Programme (the Programme) as one party, and The Institute of Certified Management Accountants (Hong Kong Branch) (CMA Australia) as the other party. Through the formalisation of the LOU, the CMA Australia will grant accreditation to the professional status of graduates of the Programme as well as members of the Society.
