HKBU Organises "BU Alumni Ensemble in Shanghai - Hong Kong-Shanghai Connect: Shaping Future via Art-Tech and Scientific Research"

300 alumni and friends gather in Shanghai to learn about the latest developments of HKBU.

The “BU Alumni Ensemble in the Shanghai” was successfully held on 5 December at the Pullman Shanghai Central Hotel, China. Hosting 300 alumni and friends, this engagement initiative united alumni from Shanghai and neighbouring cities under the theme “Hong Kong-Shanghai Connect: Shaping Future via Art-Tech and Scientific Research”.

The event started with the sharing given by HKBU senior management on the latest developments and achievements of the University in art-tech and scientific research. In his welcome remarks, Professor Martin Wong, Provost, proudly shared the research highlights of HKBU in areas such as Chinese medicine, health and drug discovery, data analytics and artificial intelligence, showcasing its dedication to transforming research outputs for societal benefit. He also took the opportunity to thank the staunch support from the HKBU Alumni Association of Shanghai (HKBUSHAA) in promoting the University in Mainland China.

Dr Albert Chau, Vice-President (Teaching and Learning), gave a sharing on the University’s tireless efforts in promoting transdisciplinary education for future-shaping students, and he congratulated HKBU students on their recent accomplishments. Additionally, Ms Christine Chow, Vice-President (Administration) and Secretary, also provided updates on the development of campus infrastructures such as the Jockey Club Campus of Creativity, the Life Science Imaging Centre, as well as the Wu Jieh Yee Institute of Translational Chinese Medicine Research.

Alumnus Gilman Too (Communication), Honorary President of HKBUSHAA, and alumnus Leon Huang (MBA), President of HKBUSHAA, also took the opportunity to introduce the latest activities of HKBUSHAA. At the event, alumna Lee Yee-ping (Business Administration) offered a singing performance while the event reached its climax with a chorus finale when everyone sang Friends by Wakin Chau, a song that celebrates friendship.

This event provided a platform for alumni to connect, fostering relationships while gaining insights into the alma mater‘s recent advances. The University is committed to continuing our endeavours to strengthen the bond among alumni in Mainland China and explore new collaboration opportunities with Mainland alumni leaders.
