Mentoring Scheme of HKBU Alumni Association of the Greater Bay Area

Assisted by alumni and supporters, HKBU Alumni Association of the Greater Bay Area (GBAAA) and HKBU Office of Student Affairs joined hands to launch a mentoring scheme.  Nearly 20 mentors were matched to 50 HKBU students for personal experience and professional knowledge sharing, aiming at boosting learning and personal development of the students. Riding on the scheme, students are also expected to enhance their understanding on talent requirements and workplace culture in the Greater Bay Area and be inspired to develop their career in the GBA in the future.

On 16 February, representatives of the executive committee of the GBAAA and mentors attended the kick-off ceremony of the scheme held on campus to show their support for their alma mater and the juniors.

At the AGM, alumnus Marcus Yuen, President of SBAA, reviewed the events oganised by SBAA during the past year. As the pandemic recedes and the society gradually returns to normal, SBAA will organise more different types of events for alumni and students, with a view to fostering alumni bonding and nurturing their contributions to alma mater

SBAA Alumni Enjoy Wine Dinner

Everyone enjoys the fine food and wines, having a great time mingling with each other.

Jointly organised by SBAA and the MBA Alumni Association of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, a wine dinner was held on 6 December 2022 at the Ding’s Kitchen. The dinner was highlighted by a sharing session with alumnus Dr Jacinto Tong (Chemistry) as the keynote speaker to share his insight on the appropriate investment strategy during the adverse investment environment. Other alumni guest speakers included alumnus Franklin Fong (Business Administration), Chairman of SBAA; alumna Ivy Ku (Business Administration), Chairman of SBAA, and alumnus Stephen Yung (Business Administration), Vice-President of SBAA.

Participants enjoyed the sharing and took the opportunity to interact with the speakers. While enjoying the nice food and fine wines, attending guests also participated in the wine tasting game to gain knowledge in wine appreciation.

HKBU Corporate Governance Society Holds Annual General Meeting 2022

On 30 December 2022, the HKBU Corporate Governance Society held its 2022 Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the Head Office of the Hong Kong Federation of Handicapped Youth. Conducted via a hybrid mode, it was attended by Chairman alumnus Gary Ng, Vice Chairmen alumni Simon Lee and William Wong, Secretary alumna Anita Tsang, Treasurer alumnus Alex Chung and Executive Committee members alumni Reason See, Alex Tam, Benjamin Ng and David Lau. The attending committee members also had a post-meeting dinner to catch up with each other.

Baptist Chemists Celebrates the Year of the Rabbit at HKBU

Chemistry alumni and academic staff gather to celebrate the Chinese New Year.

On 11 February, Baptist Chemists organised a spring gathering at Bistro NTT on campus to welcome the Year of the Rabbit. It is also an occasion of celebration for the Chemistry alumni who have been awarded the Distinguished Science Alumni Award by the Faculty of Science at HKBU. A total of 37 alumni and academic staff members attended the gathering. Filled with the joy of reunion, the alumni shared their recent happenings and New Year blessings with one another.

While Christmas in Australia is in the height of summer, it does not stop alumni from enjoying the festive atmosphere together.

After the luncheon, alumni went to Bondi Beach, one of the most famous beaches in Australia, and pose for a group photo.

HKBU Alumni Association of Australia organised a Christmas gathering on 29 December 2022 at Zilver Restaurant, Sydney, which was attended by President Sidney Cheng (Communication), Vice-President Lawrence Chan (Communication), Peggy Siu (Secretarial Management) and her husband Andrew Chan, Henie Chu (Communication/Secretarial Management) and her daughter, Richard Lam (Communication) and his wife Mabel Lam, Joe Ng (Communication), Peter Chu (Chemistry), Leung Ting-chun (Civil Engineering) and his wife Chan Bun-yee (Civil Engineering), Hui Chun-keung (Corporate Governance and Directorship) and his spouse, Professor Edward Fung, Former Head of the Department of History at HKBU and his spouse, and other friends of the Association. Alumna Lilian Tan (Biology), who had moved to Singapore, returned to Australia during the Christmas holiday and was warmly welcomed by the Association.

The Association also organised a spring dinner gathering on 31 January at XOPP by Golden Century, Sydney, to celebrate the Chinese New Year. The gathering was well attended by over 20 alumni and their families and friends. During the gathering, President alumnus Sidney Cheng shared that the Association had issued their first newsletter, which featured a variety of creative works produced by alumni. President Cheng also announced that the Association would organise a talk on 21 March, featuring alumnus Professor Yip Kam-shing (Social Work) as the guest speaker to give a sharing on the topic “Health Care in Retirement from Gerontology Perspective”.

Alumni and retired/former academic and administrative staff of the University residing in Australia are welcome to join the Association and participate in the gatherings.
