HKBU Recognises Six Distinguished Alumni at The Tenth Distinguished Alumni Award Presentation Ceremony

The Tenth Distinguished Alumni Award (DAA) Presentation Ceremony was held on 26 June on the HKBU campus in recognition of eminent alumni for their outstanding business, professional or scholarly achievements, as well as their service and contributions to the University and society. The six distinguished alumni honoured are: The Hon Chan Hoi-yan (Communication ; Media Management), Dr Wilson Cheung Wai-yin (Physical Education and Recreation Management), Professor William Cho Chi-shing (Chinese Medicine), Dr Vincent Ho Wai-fung (Communication – Film/Video), Dr Sarah Lee Wai-sze (Creative and Professional Writing) and Mr Yuen Chi-wai (Communication). A sharing session titled “A Dialogue with Distinguished Alumni” was held after the ceremony.

In his welcome remarks, Dr Kennedy Y H Wong, Chairman of the Council and the Court and Chairman of the DAA Selection Committee, acknowledged the six award recipients as living testaments to the quality and transformative impact of HKBU’s education, as they have exemplified exceptional professionalism and achieved remarkable success in their fields, making significant contributions to the community and to society at large. He hoped the HKBU community would be inspired by the six distinguished alumni to strive for excellence and to make their own mark in society.

In his remarks, Professor Alexander Wai, President and Vice-Chancellor, congratulated the six award recipients, highlighting that they all exemplify excellence in their fields and display a common core attribute to serve and contribute to the society selflessly. He also took the opportunity to recognise the steadfast support and distinguished contributions of alumni in supporting the University’s development over its 70-year history.

A sharing session moderated by one of the award recipients, The Hon Chan Hoi-yan, was conducted after the ceremony. The session provided the award recipients a platform to share their enlightening stories, wisdom and experiences from their career and life journeys. The event was also broadcast live, capturing a wider HKBU community. 

Before the ceremony, Chairman Wong hosted a luncheon in honour of the Distinguished Alumni Award recipients which was held on campus. Dr Sunny Chai, Deputy Chairman of the Council and the Court; Mr Kevin Liem, Treasurer of the Council and the Court; President Wai, members of the Selection Committee including Mr Paul Poon, former Deputy Chairman of the Council and the Court of HKBU and Managing Director of Poon’s Engineering Limited; Dr Jacinto Tong, member of the Council and the Court of HKBU and Vice-Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Gale Well Group Limited; and the University’s senior management also joined the luncheon.

In its 10th edition, the DAA is a signature event of HKBU and is widely recognised and supported by the HKBU community. With enthusiastic support for the Award, a record-breaking number of nominations was received this year. The University expresses sincere gratitude to all the nominators and supporters for their unwavering support, as well as to all members of the DAA Selection Committee for their valuable time and tireless efforts throughout the selection process.
