From 30 April to 2 May, a team of the HKBU Master of Business Administration (MBA) comprising alumni and students joined the 11th Asia-Pacific Business School Desert Challenge at the Tengger Desert of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, with the coordination supported by HKBU Alumni Runner. The team achieved impressive results including scooping the award of the highest group honour – Sand Gull Award for the second time, and winning the first runner-up in the mixed double competition by alumni He Wenlong and Zeng Xiang.

Representatives of the Association meet HKBU students who are joining a study tour in Australia led by Ms Robin Ewing, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Journalism.

HKBU Alumni Association of Australia (HKBUAA of Australia) held a luncheon in celebration of the 67th Anniversary of HKBU at Emperor’s Garden Restaurant, Sydney on 21 March. The function was graced by the presence of Ms Katherine Siu, representative of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, Sydney (HKETO). Participating alumni included President Sidney Cheng (Communication), Prof Yip Kam-shing (Social Work) and his spouse, Henie Chu (Communication/Secretarial Management), Hui Chun-keung (Corporate Governance and Directorship) and his spouse, as well as Prof Edward Fung, former Head of the Department of History of HKBU, and his spouse.

The dinner started with the welcome remarks by President Sidney Cheng.  Then, Ms Katherine Siu sent her heartfelt congratulations on the 67th Anniversary of HKBU and shared the latest developments and future plans of HKETO in her speech. The luncheon was also the first activity in 2023 joined by four Australia alumni associations of universities from Hong Kong. Representatives from the alumni associations of the three universities also shared their recent activities respectively, followed by Prof Yip Kam-shing delivering a talk on post-retirement physical and mental health.

On 17 May, representatives of HKBUAA of Australia including President Sidney Cheng, Vice-President Lawrence Chan (Communication), Eddie Chu (Communication) and his spouse Henie Chu, Richard Lam (Communication) and his spouse Mabel Lam, and Peter Chu (Chemistry) gathered at the Sydney Opera House to warmly greet 30 HKBU School of Communication students who were having a study tour in Australia.

The Association would like to invite alumni and retired/former academic and administrative staff of the University residing in Australia to join the Association as members and participate in its events. HKBU Northern California Alumni Network Organises a Tea Gathering

HKBU Northern California Alumni Network held a tea gathering on 8 May at Saigon Seafood Harbor Restaurant in Sunnyvale, California, which was attended by alumni Tony Dong (Business Management), Mabel Dong (Music), Billy Leung (Chinese Language and Literature), Diana Ko (Music) and her spouse Sam Chen. Alumni enjoyed this first reunion after the pandemic to the fullest and shared with each other their recent happenings.
