Success Stories Shared by Alumni
 
HKBU has nurtured over 126,000 graduates since its inception in 1956 and numerous alumni have in the past made notable achievements in diverse areas and professions. We are pleased to hear from them from time to time and share with readers their moments of honor, fascinating stories and achievements. In this connection, the Alumni Affairs Office is now calling for success stories of yours to be shared with the University community.
 
 
Alumnus Prof. Leung Bo-wah Elected President-Elect of the International Society for Music Education

 
Alumnus Professor Leung Bo-wah (Music), Professor and Head, Department of Cultural and Creative Arts, and Director of Research Centre for Transmission of Cantonese Opera of The Education University of Hong Kong, was elected President-Elect of the International Society for Music Education (ISME) on 6 August 2020. The term of his presidency will be six years until 2026, the first two as President-Elect, and then the next two as President, with the remaining two as Past President.

The ISME was formed by UNESCO in 1953. It is the largest worldwide music education organization with members from 87 countries. Professor Leung has been serving the ISME for more than two decades. He will be the third ISME President from Asia after two Japanese predecessors since 1953.

Alumna Tsang Ka-man is on her Road to Becoming a Professional Musician

 
Alumna Tsang Ka Man (Music) received the Denis Matthews Scholarship from Royal Birmingham Conservatoire (RBC) in 2014 to further her studies there, in which she was awarded the Joint Winner Prize in the Conservatoire. After graduation from RBC, she received three offers from the top three London Conservatoires, including the Royal Academy of Music (RAM). While at RAM, she performed on BBC World London and served as music staff in Lyric Opera Studio Weimar in Germany. In 2018, she received the RAM Professional Diploma Scholarship and became the first Asian repetiteur at the Academy. Her performances were broadcast by the Classic FM channel. Currently, she is on a traineeship in Italy, at Conservatorio di Parma Arrigo Boito. Ka-man says that the undergraduate studies at HKBU have given her an amazing experience and solid foundation for pursuing her music career.

陳永業校友勝出「網上教學達人大賽」

 
陳永業校友 (音樂)於今年6月7日由香港青年協會主辦的「網上教學達人大賽」榮膺第一名!在初賽的時候,陳校友成功地展示對運用不同教學軟件的熟練程度。面對一眾不諳音樂的觀眾和評審,他選擇了一個較適合公眾人士的教學定位,就是以應用為主,讓他們能於短時間掌握演奏樂曲的技巧。這個較容易上手的學習模式,配合清晰講解與靈活運用教學軟件,使他成功擠身決賽十強之行列,後來更順利奪冠。

陳永業校友十分欣賞青協M21能在短時間內籌備這個極具意義的活動及以認真的態度舉辦這個比賽項目,尤其能給予參賽者一日的彩排時間,並讓觀眾能即場體驗真實的教學效果,亦減低參賽者比賽失誤的機率。為支援手篋敲擊樂,陳校友決定將比賽所獲得的一萬元獎金,用作支持手篋敲擊樂團的發展事務。
