The Jackie Chan Challenge Cup Hong Kong Universities Rowing Championships 2019 –
HKBU Rowing Team Wins the Overall Championship
The HKBU Rowing Club Alumni Association (Rowing Club AA) joined the HKBU Rowing Team in The Jackie Chan Challenge Cup Hong Kong Universities Rowing Championships 2019 on 17 and 18 August at Shing Mun River, Sha Tin. Although the event was affected by inclement weather, the annual game was, as in past years, manifested by fierce contention among participating teams from various tertiary education institutions. The HKBU Rowing Team, led by the Rowing Club AA, won the Overall Championship, which ended the dominance of this title by The Chinese University of Hong Kong for 17 consecutive years in the past. The HKBU Rowing Team also came first in the Women’s Overall Championship and Men’s Overall 1st Runner Up.
One of the highlights of the Championships was the Men’s Single Sculls. Our rower, LIN Cheuk Ngai, succeeded in snatching the gold medal for four consecutive years. The HKBU Rowing Team also won titles in other events, including the Championships of the Women’s coxed Eight, Women’s coxed Four and Men’s coxed Four.
For many years, the Rowing Club AA has spared no effort in terms of manpower and time to support the Rowing Team. Besides giving sizable donations for equipment, the alumni also took up positions of Head Coach and Assistant Coach of the men’s and women’s teams on an honorary basis. The outstanding results this year cannot be achieved without their continuously support, which also helps the HKBU Rowing Team promote and realise their team spirit: “BU Teamwork” together with the Rowing Club AA!
