HKBU Students Join the Voluntary Chinese Medicine Service Trip organised by Chinese Medicine for All
9 students from the School of Chinese Medicine (SCM) of HKBU joined the voluntary Chinese Medicine Service Trip organised by Chinese Medicine for All (CMA) from 29 July to 4 August to Philippines. CMA, founded by the recipient of the Third Distinguished Alumni Award alumnus Dr. Dennis Au (Chinese Medicine and Biomedical Science), is a non-profit organization which aims to deliver free healthcare to patients in the impoverished regions. Through this trip, SCM students not only provided acupuncture treatments to the unprivileged, but were able to hone their clinical and communication skills. |

Alumnus Dickson Shang Joins HKBU Students' Trip to UC Berkeley for Participation in the Berkeley Method of Entrepreneurship Bootcamp and the Startup Semester Programme
Under the 3-year global partnership agreement between HKBU and Sutardja Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology (SCET) of the University of California, Berkeley (UC Berkeley), HKBU has sent a total of 15 students to UC Berkeley this summer. With the staunch support from alumni Mark Siu (Computer Science), Dickson Shang (Business Management) and Wong Nga-chung (Business Management), 8 students were provided an opportunity to join the Berkeley Method of Entrepreneurship Bootcamp which included activites like lectures by speakers, interactive game-based exercises, interact with UC Berkeley faculty and industry experts from Silicon Valley and around the world. An additional 7 students are taking part in the Startup Semester Programme (Fall Semester – September to December) which aims to enhance students' knowledge in entrepreneurship through a multi-disciplinary curriculum and expand their global network. This programme was sponsored by Alumni Dickson Shang (Business Management), Alfred Tang (Accounting), Wong Nga-chung (Business Management), Yuen Chee-shun (Applied Accounting and Finance) and Sunny Wong (Business Management). Being one of the alumni supporters, alumnus Dickson Shang (Business Management) also joined the trip to UC Berkeley with the students this summer. |

Alumnus Chan Chi-long Tony is awarded the Hong Kong Jockey Club Music and Dance Trust Fund 2018
Alumnus Chan Chi-long Tony (Music) was awarded a scholarship from the Hong Kong Jockey Club Music and Dance Trust Fund (The Fund) 2018. The Fund was established in 1980 with an aim to promoting music and dance education and development in Hong Kong through the provision of scholarships for young musicians and dancers of outstanding talent to pursue further studies in music and dance at world-renowned institutions. Congratulations to alumnus Chan! |

Recent Achievements of alumnus Kong Kwok-fai’s daughter Kong Man-wai Vivian
Fencing athlete Miss Kong Man-wai Vivian, who is the daughter of alumnus Kong Kwok-fai (Civil Engineering), won her first gold medal in Women's Epee Individual in 2018 Asian Fencing Championships on 19 June. She was selected as the flag bearer of Hong Kong in the opening ceremony of the Asian Games 2018 held in Jakarta and won a bronze medal in Women's Epee Individual on 21 August. Congratulations to alumnus Kong and his daughter! |

Alumnus Chan Wing-yip Gip is invited to teach percussion at the National Music Competitions for Young Artists
As a percussionist representing Hong Kong, alumnus Chan Wing-yip Gip (Music) was invited to teach in the percussion workshop of the National Music Competitions for Young Artists (NAMCYA) in Philippines from 5-6 August. 250 participants from secondary schools, universities and band societies attended the 2-day workshop. Alumnus Chan not only taught the basics of percussion with interactive games and exercises, but also gave them career tips and advices for pursuing their career as musicians. He was also delighted to perform for the participants and have cultural exchanges in music with professional percussionists in the Philippines. |
