Recent Activities of HKBU Century Club
 
Results Announcement of Century Club Sponsorship Scheme 2016

Aiming at rendering continuous contribution to the University’s betterment and sustainable development, HKBU Century Club (the Club) launched the annual Century Club Sponsorship Scheme (the Scheme) again this year to provide financial support to academic and student development projects. Since its first launch in 2008, the Scheme has received good response and applications from various academic departments and offices. The judging panel, chaired by the Club’s Vice-President alumnus Philip Kan, deliberated on the applications and decided to grant a total of HK$300,000 this year to support the following thirteen University projects:

1. Faculty of Arts – Symposium "The Spiritual Way Out of Chinese Culture"
2. School of Chinese Medicine – The 5th Annual Meeting of GP-TCM Research Association-cum-Summit on Compendium of Materia Medica and Innovative Drug Discovery in Chinese Medicine
3. Faculty of Science – Whole Person Development Programme for Science Elites
4. Faculty of Science – Young Scientist Challenge Cup
5. Department of Biology, Faculty of Science – Asia-Pacific Conference on Biotechnology for Waste Conversion (BioWC 2016)
6. Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science – Development of a Sensitive DNA-based Assay for the Detection of Lead Contamination in the Environment
7. Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science – Porphyrin Materials for Highly Efficient Organic Solar Cells
8. Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Science – Optimal Estimation of the Sample Mean and Standard Deviation with Application to Meta-Analysis and Evidence-based Medicine
9. Chaplain’s Office – Character Development Workshop 2017
10. Chaplain’s Office – Christian Leaders Training Camp 2017
11. Chaplain’s Office – Pick Up Services for Mainland Undergraduates 2016
12. General Education Office – General Education Outstanding Students Award Scheme 2016-17
13. Office of Student Affairs – HKBU Global Youth Summit 2016-17

With the sponsorship, the Club hopes that the projects would in future be self-sustainable and be able to achieve the desired outcomes in promoting academic excellence and student development, making contributions to the community and strengthening the goodwill of HKBU.

HKBU Century Club Sponsors International Chinese Medicine Meeting-cum-Summit

Sponsored by HKBU Century Club Sponsorship Scheme 2016, “The 5th Annual Meeting of GP-TCM Research Association-cum-Summit on Compendium of Materia Medica and Innovative Drug Discovery in Chinese Medicine” in collaboration with the GP-TCM Research Association and TCM Pharmaceutical Analysis Specialty Committee of WFCMS was successfully organised by the School of Chinese Medicine on 9 and 10 August on HKBU campus. Vice-President and Patron of the Club alumna Agnes Wong attended and officiated at the Opening Ceremony with government officials from Mainland China and the HKSAR, scholars and experts from academic and research institutions as well as industry representatives.

The Meeting-cum-Summit was one of the celebratory events of HKBU 60th anniversary and was organised to promote the sharing of good practices in Research & Development of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and evidence-based research on TCM, and to explore new strategies for and approaches to new drug discovery and standardisation of Chinese materia medica. As a major international event in the field of Chinese medicine in the academic arena, the two-day Meeting-cum-Summit featured talks by 58 top scholars and experts from 15 countries and regions. Covering a wide spectrum of topics ranging from quality control, pharmacology and toxicology, regulatory matters and standardisation, clinical studies, acupuncture, the Compendium of Materia Medica, to new drug discovery, the event attracted more than 150 participants comprising scholars, scientists, teachers and students in Chinese medicine as well as representatives from research institutions from various countries and districts.
