Over a Thousand Alumni Celebrate Joyful Reunion on Homecoming Day 2020

Over a thousand alumni participated in the events of Homecoming Day 2020, the theme of which is “BUnited”. Participants enjoyed numerous great moments at the first-ever organised United Digitally, comprising various sessions respectively for different Faculties/ Schools/ Academies/ Departments. The Alumni Investiture Ceremony held on 31 October was also a great success.

One of the highlights of the Homecoming Day 2020 is the first-ever digital alumni meet-ups United Digitally which attracted over a thousand alumni to gather online during the Homecoming Day 2020. These digital alumni gatherings allow the University, despite the COVID-19 pandemic, to reach out to our alumni community and, in particular, to provide alumni with a platform to connect with each other in this unusual time. We are thrilled that alumni spanning 6 generations from over 7 Faculties/ Schools/ Academy (including Faculties of Arts, Science, Social Sciences, Schools of Communication, Chinese Medicine and Continuing Education, and Academy of Visual Arts) and 21 Departments, had joined us during these digital gatherings, not only to socialise with each other but also to learn more about the latest developments and achievements of the various Faculties and Departments from respective Deans and Heads. While recalling the fond memories of the good old days at their alma mater, alumni also took the opportunity to rekindle friendship with their classmates through the ZOOM platform. Please note that the digital gathering for alumni of the School of Business will be held on 5 December 2020. Interested parties can click here for registration.

The Alumni Investiture Ceremony was successfully held on 31 October. This is a unique HKBU tradition that signifies the strong bonding between our alumni and their alma mater. Around 200 alumni who graduated in 1960, 1965, 1970, 1975, 1980, 1985, 1990 and 1995 were presented name-engraved medals by President Prof. Roland Chin in recognition of the contributions they made to their alma mater and society at large over the years. This is the first time the Alumni Investiture Ceremony was broadcast live on ZOOM and YouTube, allowing alumni from different parts of the world to join the Ceremony and witness this great event. This Ceremony is, however, the last time for alumni to receive medals from President Chin before his retirement at the end of this year. Alumna Helen Kwok (Communication) and alumnus Leung Ka-kuen (Chinese) served as MCs of the Ceremony, who made not only the flow of the event smooth but also the atmosphere warm and cosy.
