HKBU Rowing Club Alumni Association Holds Prize Presentation Ceremony for the Jackie Chan Challenge Cup Hong Kong Universities Rowing Championships 2019 on Campus

The 35th HKBU Rowing Club Alumni Association (Rowing Club AA) held an internal prize presentation ceremony at HKBU Campus on 24th September to honour those rowers who received awards in the Jackie Chan Challenge Cup Hong Kong Universities Rowing Championships 2019. This year, Rowing Club AA and HKBU Rowing Team had put up an excellent performance in the competition. Besides winning the Women’s Overall Championship and the Men’s Overall 1st Runner Up, they also won the Overall Championship. The event was attended by President Prof. Roland Chin, Dr. Albert Chau, Vice-President (Teaching and Learning), Prof. Gordon Tang, Director of Student Affairs, Prof. P.K. Chung, Department of Sport and Physical Education and Dr. Melanie Lee, Director of Alumni Affairs, who passed their congratulatory messages to the winners. At the gathering, the winning teams were presented with prizes in recognition of their outstanding performance.

At the ceremony, Ms. Vick Yeung (Sociology), President of HKBU Rowing Club Alumni Association, gave a note of thanks to the University for supporting the development of the HKBU Rowing Team.

HKBU Alumni Association of Ontario Participates in Joint Universities Talent Show

On 6 October, HKBU Alumni Association of Ontario participated in the Joint Universities Talent Show 2019 organised by the Hong Kong Joint Universities Alumni (Ontario) at Infiniti in Toronto, Canada. At the talent show, the alumni associations of nine universities from Hong Kong showcased their talents through a variety of performances. HKBU Alumni Association of Ontario formed two teams to perform singing and dancing respectively. The dancing team captured the attention of the audience most as they were dressed in special costume adorned with LED lights against a blackout stage design. The stunning and wonderful performance of the two teams won warm applause from all audience.

HKBU Alumni Association of Ontario - Annual General Meeting cum Reunion Dinner

HKBU Alumni Association of Ontario held its Annual General Meeting cum Reunion Dinner on 27 October, which was graced by the presence of a member of the Alumni Committee of HKBU Foundation alumnus Wong Nga-chung (Honorary University Fellow; Business Management) from Hong Kong.

At the meeting, the new Board of Directors for the term of 2020-2022 were elected:

President: Alfred Au-Yeung (Communication)
Vice President: Francis Tam (Biology)
Secretary: Chan Po-man (Chinese Language & Literature)
Treasurer: Sherman Kao (History and Geography)
Board Members: Linda Tse (English Language & Literature)

HKBU Alumni Association of Australia Holds Luncheon Gathering

HKBU Alumni Association of Australia organised a luncheon gathering on 26 September 2019 at The Eight Modern Chinese Restaurant, Sydney, and invited the former Head of Department of History of HKBU, Prof. Edward Fung, to give a talk on the current situation in Hong Kong. The Association was greatly honored to have the presence of Deputy Director of Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, Ms. Winnie Chan, at the luncheon.

Alumni attending the luncheon include President Sidney Cheng (Communication), Vice-President Lawrence Chan (Communication), Peggy Siu (Secretarial Management) and her spouse Andrew Chan, Henie Tsang (Secretarial Management), Leung Ting-chun (Civil Engineering) and his spouse Chan Bun-yee (Civil Engineering), Richard Lam (Communication) and his spouse Mabel Lam, Peter Chu (Chemistry) and Jennifer Chan (Communication). Special guests of the luncheon include President of The Chinese University of Hong Kong Alumni Association of Australia Owen Wong and former President Steve Lam, CUHK alumna Angela Wong, Honorary President of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (Australia) Association Bosco Lau, PolyU alumni Irene Lee and Andrew Chan, representative from The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology Strenia Lam, and representatives from The Hong Kong University Alumni Association NSW Chapter of Australia Cynthia Chan and Mimi Ho. All attendees had a wonderful sharing and joyful time at the luncheon.

Hong Kong Baptist University Alumni Association of the Greater Bay Area (HKBUGBAAA) Participates in a Seminar of Shenzhen Virtual University Park

On 22 September, HKBUGBAAA attended a seminar hosted by Hong Kong Baptist University Institute for Research and Continuing Education. The seminar was jointly organised by the Science and Technology Innovation Commission of Shenzhen and the Management Service Center of Shenzhen Virtual University Park. During the seminar, Prof. Liu Jiming, Associate Vice-President (Research) of Hong Kong Baptist University, was invited to deliver a talk on disease prevention and control. Prof. Liu believed that artificial intelligence could be a good gatekeeper of human beings in the future. He also shared his views on the possible challenges and opportunities faced by applications of artificial intelligence.

Founding President of HKBUGBAAA Visits HKBU

Founding President of HKBUGBAAA alumnus Dr. Vincent Ho paid a visit to HKBU on 15 October and met with Senior Assistant Academic Registrar Dr. Vicky Wong and Director of Alumni Affairs Dr. Melanie Lee to discuss the arrangement of the inauguration ceremony of HKBUGBAAA. They also exchanged views on how to strengthen the collaboration between the Graduate School of HKBU and alumni in the Greater Bay Area.

HKBUGBAAA Organises the “Sports and Individual Values” Seminar

HKBUGBAAA organised the “Sports and Individual Values” seminar with IDG Asia Incubator and HKBU Runners in Shenzhen on 19 October. The seminar was the second large-scale function under the HKBUGBAAA “Connect” series covering topics of real estate, sports, finance and technology.

At the seminar, founding President of HKBUGBAAA alumnus Dr. Vincent Ho announced the launch of the “Founding 1000 Membership Scheme”. The Scheme echoes the 10-year strategic plan of the University and aims at recruiting a greater number of alumni who reside in the Greater Bay Area, and increasing the impact of HKBU alumni in the region through alumni networking and vigorous support for alumni enterprises.

The captain of HKBU Runners alumnus Ye Long (Business Administration) introduced the background of HKBU Runners to the participants and encouraged them to enhance their stature and agility through running. A guest speaker was invited to share information related to the Sport Demonstration Award and the development of the sports industry in the Greater Bay Area.

The Champion of 2009 World Rowing Cup in Munich, Germany Xiao Chu-chu was invited to promote rowing as a sport and share her experience in rowing races.

The seminar is the second large-scale function under the “Connect” series run of HKBUGBAAA.

HKBU MScBM Alumni Association Organises a Sharing Session on Quality Management

On 16 October, Hong Kong Baptist University MScBM Alumni Association (MScBMAA) organised a sharing session on “Quality Management for Career Development”. MScBMAA was honoured to have Ir. Dr. Y.K. Chan, Chairman of Six Sigma Institute as speaker to share his valuable experience with students. President of Association alumna Elise Guo also took the opportunity to share with participating students the latest development and future activities of the Association.
