HKBU Council Dinner in Honour of Honorary Doctorate Recipients 2016

On 14 November, HKBU conferred four Honorary Doctoral degrees on Prof. Elizabeth M Daley, Professor Martin Hairer, Mr. David Mong Tak-yeung and Professor Valerie Smith in recognition of their outstanding achievements in their fields and remarkable contributions to society.

In the same evening, the HKBU Council Dinner in honour of Honorary Doctorate Recipients was held to celebrate their conferment. In his welcoming remarks, Chairman of the Council and the Court Mr. Cheng Yan-kee conveyed his heartfelt congratulations to the Honorary Doctorate Recipients and warmly welcomed the attending guests. Chairman Cheng said that the Honorary Doctorate Recipients were shining role models and source of inspiration to HKBU and its students.

In addition, Chairman Cheng thanked the Council members including Deputy Chairman Mrs. Pamela Chan, Dr. Polly Cheung, Ms. Rosanna Choi, The Hon. Ma Fung-kwok and Ms. Winnie Tam for their hard work and splendid service in supporting HKBU. Their term of service for the Council will end on 31 December 2016.

President Roland Chin Hosted a Dinner in Honour of Professor Daley Attended by Alumni and Friends of the Academy of Film

President Roland Chin hosted a dinner to welcome Prof. Elizabeth M Daley, Dean of the School of Cinematic Arts of the University of Southern California, who was conferred Doctor of Letters, honoris causa by HKBU. The dinner was well attended by HKBU faculty members, alumni and friends of the Academy of Film at his residence, Shiu Pong Hall, on 13 November. At the dinner, participants exchanged their view and shared the latest development of the entertainment industry and cinematic arts education.

Apart from Prof. Daley and Dr. James Hindman, other honourable guests attending the dinner included Chairman of the Council and the Court Mr. and Mrs. Cheng Yan-kee; HKBU Honorary Doctorate Dr. and Mrs. Johnnie To; Film Director & Screenwriter alumnus Dr. Alfred Cheung (Chinese Language & Literature); Film Director alumnus Herman Yau (Communication); Film Director alumnus Steve Chan (Cinema & Television); Lecturer of Academy of Film and award-winning cinematographer alumnus Poon Hang-sang (Communication); Film Director and Producer Mr. Alex Law; Film Director and Producer Ms. Mabel Cheung; Film Production Supervisor Mr. To Kei-ch; Director and Professor of Academy of Film Prof. Emilie Yeh; Associate Director and Principal Lecturer of Academy of Film Mr. Shu-sum Man; Programme Director of Academy of Film for Higher Diploma Programme Mr. Norman Chan and Director of Alumni Affairs Dr. Melanie Lee. Everyone enjoyed the evening to the fullest extent.
