Class Representatives Join Web Meeting on Project SEED

To ascertain the needs and focus of students and to align priorities for supporting students under Project SEED (Students Engagement, Enhancement, and Development), which is a new initiative of the University to help its graduating students prepare for the world of work in light of the challenges they may encounter during the current economic downturn, Alumni Affairs Office (AAO) organized a ZOOM meeting with student class representatives on 8 May 2020. Around 40 class representatives share their thoughts on Project SEED with HKBU senior management including Vice-President (Teaching and Learning) Dr. Albert Chau, Associate Vice-President (Student Experience) Prof. Arthur Mak, and the management team of AAO and Office of Student Affairs. .

During the meeting, Dr Chau spoke about how the ideas underpinning Project SEED have evolved to assist graduating students in the pursuit of their personal and professional goals amidst the current difficult circumstances. Thoughtful suggestions and comments were made to enhance the practicability of the various plans under Project SEED. Senior management of the University also gave class representatives instant guidance on career planning and further study.

Project SEED aims to assist the graduating class through several fronts:

1. SEED Mentorship: a stage-by-stage mentorship development programme is put in place to engage alumni in mentoring students on their personal and career development
2.   SEED Job: career opportunities are solicited for graduates, while there have been ongoing arrangements of job consultations, business referrals and references
3.   SEED Internship: part-time work, internship experience and job attachment opportunities are provided to students and graduates
4.   SEED Incubator:

training workshops and experience sharing sessions are planned with the aim of supporting student start-up ventures

Graduating students and alumni are welcome to email to seed@hkbu.edu.hk to share your ideas and thoughts on Project SEED.

HKBUnity Starts with Class Representatives

Alumni Affairs Office (AAO) has appointed 77 Class Representatives from 43 different programmes of the University for the academic year 2019-2020. The HKBU Class Representative Scheme was an initiative launched by AAO in 2012 with the aim to foster stronger ties with the alumni-to-be. Every year, programme directors are invited to nominate their outstanding undergraduate final year students to become Class Representatives, all of whom will be entrusted with the responsibility to build up a sustainable relationship between alumni and their alma mater.

Over the years, Class Representatives have been invited to join various AAO activities such as Homecoming Days, Distinguished Alumni Award High Table Dinners and Alumni Sharing Forums, all of which provide them great opportunities to know each other and learn from other outstanding alumni. Attending these events will also help broaden their social network and gain inspiration for career development. Details of similar upcoming events will be announced later.

Class representatives actively participate in the Distinguished Alumni Award High Table Dinner organised by the Alumni Affairs Office.

Class Representatives learn from the outstanding and senior alumni their way to success.

Class Representatives enjoy the opportunity to mingle with each other.
