HKBU Symphony Orchestra Holds Annual Gala Concert Featuring Renowned Marimbist Eriko Daimo

HKBU Symphony Orchestra held its annual gala concert at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre on 18 April. The Orchestra was conducted by Prof. Johnny Poon, Acting Dean of Arts and Head of the Department of Music, and the guest performer was world-renowned marimba player Ms. Eriko Daimo.

Over 1,200 guests including alumni, members of the HKBU Foundation, friends of the University, staff and students, attended the concert and were all captivated by the Programme: Johannes Brahms’ Academic Festival Overture, Op 80; Pius Cheung’s Princess Chang Ping, Concerto for Marimba; Peng Yenkai’s Dancing with Teresa Teng; and Igor Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite (1919).

HKBU Hosts Scholarship & Bursary Donors’ Tea Reception 2016/17

The Scholarship & Bursary Donors’ Tea Reception 2016/17 organised by the Office of Student Affairs was held on 26 April. The University presented over 2,000 scholarship and bursary awards to around 1,700 outstanding students from different Faculties and Schools with generous donations from more than 250 organisations, professional bodies, firms and individuals. HKBU alumni also rendered full support to students of their alma mater. Some of the alumni attended the tea reception on that day, including: alumni Agnes Wong (Business Management); Alfred Tang (Accounting); Ben Lam (Communication); Candy Wong (China Studies-Economics); Chau Wai-tong (Media Management); Chow Tat-hei (Social Work); Debbie Lam (Business Administration); Gordon Lee (Education); Joey Mak (Humanities); Kelvin Wu (Business Management); Leo Ngan (Pharmacy); Tyrone Siu (History); and Wong Nga-chung (Honorary University Fellow; Business Management).

UIC Homecoming Day

On 22 April, Beijing Normal University – Hong Kong Baptist University United International College (UIC) held its Homecoming Day on Zhuhai Campus. All UIC alumni were invited to come back the College to meet with their fellow teachers and schoolmates and recall their reminiscence of the old days.

The most eye-catching event of the day was the Mass Wedding. President of UIC and former President of HKBU Prof. Ng Ching-fai was invited to be the witness in the Wedding. The couples also received tremendous blessings from nearly 500 UIC alumni who joined the event. In addition to this wedding ceremony, there are other events like Thankyou Dinner to Teachers, Sports Games, Campus Tour, and drama performance Mr. Loser.

HKBU Sports Teams Annual Dinner 2016-17

On 27 April, HKBU Department of Physical Education (PE) held the University Sport Teams Annual Dinner at Federal Cruise Banquet Centre, Kai Tak Cruise Terminal. Over 400 alumni, students, coaches, staff and retirees from PE Department attended the dinner, at which members of HKBU sports teams shared their experience and efforts made in achieving their goals.

At the dinner, many PE alumni, who come back to the alma mater as part-time coaches, shared their joy in witnessing the growth of the sports teams. They were proud to see the excellent results achieved by different sports teams, including basketball, volleyball, swimming, fencing, woodball, handball, badminton, Taekwondo and table tennis, in various competitions organised by The University Sports Federation of Hong Kong this year.
