Led by President and Vice-Chancellor Prof. Roland Chin, the Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) delegation visited the west coast of North America and attended two anniversary dinners organized by HKBU Alumni Association of Southern California in Los Angeles (LA) and HKBU Alumni Association of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada in late February. Members of the delegation included Vice-President (Academic) Prof. Franklin Luk; Vice-President (Research & Development) Prof. Rick Wong; Director of Academy of Film Prof. Emilie Yeh; Director of International Office Mr. Peter Li; and Director of Alumni Affairs Dr. Melanie Lee. During the trip, the delegation visited a number of renowned liberal arts universities on the West Coast.
Attended the 60th Anniversary Dinner organized by HKBU Alumni Association of Southern California
The delegation attended a dinner organised by the HKBU Alumni Association of Southern California (SCAA) in celebration of HKBU 60th anniversary on 28 Feb. The dinner was also graced with the presence of Mrs. Lilian Wong, wife of HKBU's first Council Chairman Dr. David Wong, and Dr. Thomas L. Anderson, Professor of Neurology at UCLA and Mrs. Charlotte Anderson. (Dr. Anderson is the son of Dr. Maurice John Anderson, the Founding Vice-president and Provost of Hong Kong Baptist College). On top of the President of SCAA Mr. Charles Chung, over 70 alumni from the vicinity joined the gathering, at which a cake-cutting ceremony was held.

The delegation visited Vancouver as the last stop of their trip and attended a dinner organised by HKBU Alumni Association of British Columbia to mark HKBU's 60th anniversary on 5 March.
The dinner was graced with the presence of Principal Consultant of Western Canada, Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (Toronto) Ms Catherine Yuen. It was also attended by the representatives from overseas alumni associations of other universities in Hong Kong, including The University of Hong Kong, The Chinese University of Hong Kong and Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
President of the Alumni Association Mr. Samuel Chan also extended a warm welcome to the delegation at his residence.
At both celebration dinners, President Chin made a speech on the major achievements of HKBU in the last few decades as well as some key initiatives that the University will undertake in the years ahead. He also earnestly invited overseas alumni to join the Gala Dinner of HKBU's 60th anniversary, which will be held in Hong Kong on 4 Oct as a finale of the celebration.
