The amount of the successful bid will be donated to HKBU for applying for the “Sixth Matching Grant Scheme” and supporting “Daniel and Kitty Tse Visiting Professorship Scheme”.

Engraved with Chinese writing at the back, the watch marked a historical milestone of the College. Dr. Tse recalled that his monthly salary as a President and Vice-Chancellor back then was HK$4,000, and thus colleagues must have spent a significant portion of their earnings in buying him the watch. He was grateful for the invaluable friendships with colleagues and their care shown. The watch is still in a good condition after more than 40 years.

“Daniel and Kitty Tse Visiting Professorship Scheme” is a project established in the early years, with the aim of inviting international renowned scholars in residence to teach and exchange, enhancing the development in teaching and research as well as strengthening the collaboration with universities around the world. Under the Scheme, HKBU appointed Professor Jeffrey Cheung Tai-kin as the Visiting Professor of Department of Physics, Faculty of Science for the year of 2012-13 and will appoint Professor Jia Wei as the Visiting Professor of the School of Chinese Medicine for the year of 2013-14. In the long run, the project will sustain its operation through donation and matching grant allocated from respective school or faculty.
