Business Alumni Share Experience in Consulting Industry

Co-organised by HKBU School of Business Alumni Association (SBAA) and Career Centre of Office of Student Affairs, the Alumni Sharing Seminar on Consulting Industry titled “Life as a Consultant” was held on BU Campus on 28 April. The Seminar was also live broadcast on campus of Beijing Normal University-Hong Kong Baptist University United International College (UIC). It attracted over 100 alumni and students from both HKBU and UIC to participate.

Four business alumni currently working in the Consulting industry were invited to speak. They were alumni Elaine Lau, Regan Xu and Wenyan Zhang and Katrina Pu. Mr Michael Pang, Member of Department of Accounting and Law Advisory Committee of HKBU, was the moderator to lead the discussion.

The seminar was kick-started by the opening remarks of Chairman of SBAA alumnus Bernard Wu and Dean of Division of Business and Management of UIC, Prof. Stella Cho. The speakers then gave an overview of the industry and introduced the job opportunities available. They also shared with participants the related job-seeking tips. In the Q&A session, participants from HKBU and UIC were highly active and were keen to know more about the career prospects of consulting industry.

HKBU School of Business Alumni Association Leads a Student Delegation to Join The Jiangsu Summer Internship Programme (Nanjing)

HKBU School of Business Alumni Association (SBAA), HKBU Career Centre and Office of Taiwan Hong Kong Macao Affairs of Nanjing University joined hands to organise the Jiangsu Summer Internship Programme (Nanjing) which was kicked-off on 28 May. Chairman of SBAA alumnus and member of Alumni Committee of HKBU Foundation, Bernard Wu (Accounting), led a student delegation to Nanjing for three consecutive years. Thanks to the past success of the programme, this year's programme was extended from six weeks to eight weeks. From this programme, over 30 participants gained valuable experience through the internship offered by the renowned enterprises like China Merchants Bank, Deloitte, KPMG, Hong Kong Trade Development Council Nanjing office, Jiangsu Television and San Leng Technology Group. They are also invited to attend CEO forums, visit local hot spots and exchange academic and cultural views with students and teachers of the Nanjing University and Jiangsu Police Institute.

Approaching its third year, the internship programme has been very practical and helpful for participants to better understand the latest development of Jiangsu and Nanjing in the fields of banking and investment, accounting, media, technology and e-commerce, as well as gain practical working experience to enrich their life and broaden their horizon.
Vice-President (Teaching & Learning) Dr. Albert Chau encourages participants to grasp this Nanjing internship opportunity to broaden their horizon.

HKBU Rowing Club Alumni Association (HKBURCAA)

Alumni Wong Cho Pang (Arts (Asso Degree)), Ma Wai Hung (Accountancy) and Wong Miu Kuen of Rowing Club Alumni Association led eight HKBU students to participate in a rowing regatta in Beijing. This was a 2-day regatta with more than 300 participants from 11 cities of China. BU Rowing Team participated in 6km running race and 1000m race. In these highly competitive races, the team won a gold medal and 1st runner up in 6km and 1000m race respectively. HKBURCAA would like to enrich students' experience through their participation in the race.

HKBU Alumni Association of Australia Holds a Lunch Gathering

On 24 May, HKBU Alumni Association of Australia held a lunch gathering at The Eight Modern Chinese Restaurant, Sydney, which was attended by President of the Association alumnus Sidney Cheng (Communication), members alumni Lawrence Chan (Communication), Augustus Ho (Physic) and his wife, Henie Tsang (Secretarial Management), Bosco Lau, Richard Lam (Communication) and his wife Mabel Lam, Leung Ting-chun (Civil Engineering) and his wife Chan Bun-yee (Civil Engineering), and Allan Chu (Accounting).

HKBU Alumni Association of Australia would like to invite alumni, retired and former academic and administrative staff of the University, who are now residing in Australia to join the Association. Recent Activities of HKBU Alumni Association of Shanghai

On 8 May, HKBU Alumni Association of Shanghai held a dinner gathering with alumnus Sunny Wong (Business Management), Chairman of Alumni Committee of HKBU Foundation, and including those Normal University—Hong Kong Baptist University United International College (UIC) in Shanghai. The Dinner was well attended by over 30 alumni who had a lot of fun catching up with each other.

Moreover, Founding President alumnus Yee Lam (Communication) and Founding Vice President alumnus Gilman Too (Communication) led 20 member representatives to attend a forum on Sino-US relations and global investment hotspots in Shanghai on 19 May. Dr. Gordon Tsui, Member of Alumni Committee of HKBU Foundation generously sponsored the admission fee for the attending members.
