Farewell Dinner for Chemistry Prof. Chan Wing Hong and HKBU 60th Anniversary Celebration Banquet
 
Co-organised by Baptist Chemists and the Alumni Affairs Office, the farewell dinner held at Renfrew Restaurant on 25 June was well attended by over 160 Chemistry graduates from 1970s to 2010s and staff, who came back on a Saturday evening to celebrate the 60th anniversary of HKBU as well as to bid farewell to retiring Chemistry Professor Chan Wing Hong.

The dinner was also graced by the presence of President Prof. Roland Chin, Associate Vice-President and Chairman of HKBU 60th Anniversary Co-ordinating Committee Prof. Frank Fu, Acting Dean of Science Prof. Jiming Liu, Associate Dean of Science Dr. Daniel Kwong, former Dean of Science Dr. John Chan and former Heads of Department of Chemistry

At the dinner, President Chin shared the latest development and his vision for HKBU. Baptist Chemists and the Department of Chemistry each presented a gift to Professor Chan Wing-hong to thank him for his great contributions to the Department and the University over the past 35 years. Several alumni and colleagues also shared their feelings and blessings to Prof. Chan. As a finale, all guests toasted the 60th anniversary of HKBU.

On the same occasion, the establishment of the “Dr. Mok Man Hung Endowed Chair in Chemistry” was also announced. The Endowed Chair will be set up to commemorate the late Dr. Mok, former Vice-President (Administration) and Secretary and Head of Chemistry Department, and to advance research development at the Department of Chemistry and HKBU. During the dinner, Advisor and former President of Baptist Chemists alumna Mok Sin-hing, sister of Dr. Mok, further introduced the project and encouraged alumni to contribute for the betterment of the alma mater. The University has set a goal of raising HK$10 million for the endowment fund which aims at recruiting and retaining the highest-quality scholars and financing advanced research.
