A HK$1 million donation from Mr. Shih Wing-ching, Chairman of the Centaline Group and Shih Wing Ching Foundation, and Honorary Professor of HKBU School of Business, was received for the establishment of the Young Entrepreneurs’ Club (YEC). A ceremony was held on 1 December to mark the official launch of the YEC and to acknowledge Mr. Shih’s generous support for the University.
In his welcoming remarks, Professor Edward Snape, Dean of the School of Business, expressed his gratitude to Mr. Shih for his support for entrepreneurial education. Later, Mr. Shih inspired the audience with his speech on entrepreneurship and self-commitment. “There is actually an urgency to encourage as many entrepreneurial activities as possible, as we need more creative solutions to the complex challenges facing us under the global economy. Being an entrepreneur is about knowing your aspiration and talent to make an impact – and then to act on it.”
YEC is a partnership initiated by the School of Business and Knowledge Transfer Office, aiming at inspiring the spirit of entrepreneurship through education, knowledge transfer and community services, as well as providing a platform to facilitate entrepreneurial activity. Alumnus Samuel Lam (Business Administration), Co-founder and CEO of X Social Group Limited, was one of the nine inaugural members of YEC who are outstanding entrepreneurs from different sectors under the age of 40.
