Alumna Anna Vienna Ho Debuted Her Opera in Britain’s Largest Festival of New Opera

The pandemic has caused the cancellation of most of the concert and opera engagements of alumna Anna Vienna Ho (Music). Gratefully, she could still work during this difficult period as a composer and premiered her first opera, Buddha and the Monkey King, as part of the performance in the Tête à Tête Opera Festival, Britain's largest festival of new opera. She was also commissioned by the Birmingham Opera Company to participate in a video production entitled It Gets Lighter From Here, in partnership with the Birmingham Culture Central. During her undergraduate years at HKBU, several opportunities had come alumna Ho’s way that allowed her to delve into different fields of music. The exposure had made her an all-rounded musician and paved her road to work professionally as a concert pianist, répétiteur and composer.

Alumna Mellissa Tong Produced a Documentary for Fund-raising

Alumna Mellissa Tong (Music Composition), a documentary filmmaker, travelled to Nigeria, West Africa, with a mission to tell the story about just how having clean water in the villages can help save lives and change the future of a whole new generation. The documentary video was for Wells Bring Hope, a non-profit group in the US that strives to drill wells in West Africa, so that women and girls do not have to walk miles to bring water back to their villages. The video helped the community raise funds by one-third more compared to before, enabling it to drill 13 more wells.
