HKBU Alumni Association – Public Forums
HKBU Alumni Association (HKBUAA) jointly organised two forums with alumni associations of various local and overseas universities in January.
The forum on “Xi Jinping and China Dream – An Interpretation of the Third Plenum of the Central Committee Conference of the Communist Party of China”, jointly organised by HKBUAA, Hong Kong Polytechnic Alumni Association and Hong Kong Institution of Chief Engineers on 18 January 2014, was well-attended by over 50 alumni and friends. The guest speaker Mr. Chen Fu, Research Fellow of Guangdong Academy of Social Sciences, shared his insights on issues related to the Third Plenum of the Central Committee Conference of the Communist Party of China.
The other forum themed “The Impacts of Shanghai Free Trade Zone on Hong Kong and Proposals for Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau Free Trade Zone”was jointly organised by HKBUAA and HKBU School of Business Alumni Association along with twelve other university alumni associations and institutes. The forum was well-received by about 120 alumni and guests, including the Presidents of alumni associations from Hong Kong, Taiwan and overseas universities as well as Chairmen of supporting organisations. One of the guest speakers, Dr. Ma Jun, Chief Economist for Greater China of Deutsche Bank AG, reviewed that the development of Shanghai Free Trade Zone is part of China’s plan to prepare itself for entering the Trans Pacific Partnership. If the Shanghai Free Trade Zone becomes successful, other parts of China will also follow, which will give impacts on Hong Kong’s position in the international trade market.
The other guest speaker Dr. Joseph Cheung Kin-yu, Senior Lecturer of Tsing Hua University School of Economics and Management, shared that the orientation of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau Free Trade Zones is to drive the development of Pearl River Delta by taking advantage of Hong Kong’s leading position, therefore the HKSAR Government should clearly define the aspects of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau Free Trade Zones so as to facilitate Hong Kong to be adapted to the economic system of China. |
