Association of “Chow Yiu Fai Lyrics Writing Course Alumni” Organises Its First Event on Lyrics Review

On 3 November, “Chow Yiu Fai Lyrics Writing Course Alumni” organised its first reunion event entitled “歌詞初哥X「刁鑽」樂評人”. The event was attended by around 70 alumni who are alumni of the “Chinese Lyrics Writing Course” of Department of Humanities and Creative Writing, guests and Cantopop lovers. The event focused mainly on the appreciation of lyrics. At the event, Dr. Chow Yiu-Fai and the invited music critics shared their experience of lyrics writing, and discussed with the audience their perspectives of lyrics appreciation.

The “Chinese Lyrics Writing Course” is organized and taught by the Associate Professor of the Department of Humanities and Creative Writing, Dr. Chow Yiu-Fai. The Association of “Chow Yiu Fai Lyrics Writing Course Alumni” was newly formed with the aim of connecting alumni and promoting Chinese lyrics writing. The Association is comprised of the following members:

Hong Kong Baptist University Alumni Association of the Greater Bay Area (GBAAA) Holds a Gathering for Alumni in Finance Industry

GBAAA held a gathering for alumni in the finance industry on 30 November. At the gathering, founding President of GBAAA alumnus Dr. Vincent Ho introduced to the attendees the Alumni Association as well as its “Founding 1000 Membership Scheme” and “Founding 100 Membership Scheme”. Mr. Dominic Wu, Managing Director of the Bank of New York Mellon and the Chairman of Asia Financial Risk Think Tank, was invited to give a talk at the gathering, to share with the audience his insights in the planning of the Greater Bay Area and the potential investment opportunities. Half of the participating alumni were from Hong Kong, while the rest were from Shenzhen and Guangzhou. They exchanged views on the development of the Greater Bay Area and explored opportunities for business collaboration. They were so eager for further discussion that they stayed after the talk and proposed to establish a WeChat group exclusively for alumni in finance industry. GBAAA is actively following up this request, hoping to establish an HKBU alumni finance community in the Greater Bay Area.

Alumni in Singapore Hold a Dinner Gathering

Initiated by HKBU alumni representative in Singapore alumna Pauline Lo (Communication), a dinner gathering attended by alumni resident in Singapore was held at Jumbo in Riverside Point, Singapore on 29 November. During the dinner, participants extended their warm welcome to alumna Vivien Hui (Applied Economics), who joined the gathering for the first time. They all enjoyed having nice chats over a seafood dinner.

HKBU School of Business Alumni Association Organises Banking Management Trainee Programme Interview Workshop

On 26 October, HKBU School of Business Alumni Association (SBAA) organised the “Banking Management Trainee (MT) Programme Interview Workshop”, which was attended by over 30 students. Merek Lee, Isabella Lee and Anson Yeung, the three alumni from Business Administration who previously received MT offers respectively from Hang Seng Bank, HSBC and Bank of China (Hong Kong), were invited to share with participants the experience of their applications for the MT programmes of major banks in Hong Kong, as well as giving tips on getting MT offers. The facilitator of the workshop was SBAA’s Executive Committee Member and Treasury Specialist of Citibank alumnus Stephen Yung (Business Administration). All attendees benefited a lot from the vast experience and insights of the facilitator and the speakers.

HKBU School of Business Alumni Association and The Association of Business Students Join Hands in Organising an Investment Workshop

HKBU School of Business Alumni Association (SBAA) and The Association of Business Students joined hands in organising an investment workshop on 29 October at the University campus in Kowloon Tong. Alumnus Edwin Tam (Business Management), SBAA’s Executive Committee Member and Executive Director and Portfolio Manager of HZ Capital Limited, was invited as speaker to share his expertise and experience in investment strategies. The talk provided an excellent opportunity for participating students to acquire more practical knowledge and insights in investment.

HKBU Alumni Association – Civil Engineering Graduates Association Holds its Annual General Meeting cum Dinner

HKBU Alumni Association – Civil Engineering Graduates Association held its Annual General Meeting cum Dinner on 9 November at the Cityview Hotel. The event was attended by 34 alumni and guests, including former lectures of the Civil Engineering Department Ir. Prof. Ko Jan-ming and Ir. Lai Kuen-wai.

The annual dinner was a reunion for alumni to reconnect and recall their good old days at their alma mater. All participants treasured the precious moment and had a wonderful evening together.

Chairman and Vice Chairman of HKBU MBA Alumni Association Have a Lunch Gathering with Director of Alumni Affairs

On 5 November, Chairman of HKBU MBA Alumni Association alumnus Harry Ng and Vice Chairman alumnus Raymond Hayat returned to HKBU for a lunch gathering to share with Director of Alumni Affairs Dr. Melanie Lee the future plans of the Association and to update her on the upcoming activities of the Association. They all had an enjoyable get-together.

HKBU MScBM Alumni Association Holds 2019 Annual General Meeting

On 7 November, Hong Kong Baptist University MScBM Alumni Association (MScBMAA) held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) and the following members of the Executive Committee were elected for the term 2019-20:

President: Ms. Elise Guo
Vice-President: Ms. Emma Zhou
Honorary Treasurer: Mr. Marvin Yi
Honorary Secretary: Mr. Joe Qiao
Committee Member: Mr. Benson Lau

At the AGM, President of the Association alumna Elise Guo reviewed the development of the Association since its inauguration in April 2018. Looking ahead, the Association will continue to organise events to connect with MScBM alumni and students.
