Alumni Association of Department of Chinese Language and Literature Celebrates the 55th Anniversary of the Department
In celebration of the 55th Anniversary of the Department of Chinese Language and Literature, the Alumni Association of the Department of Chinese Language and Literature held a homecoming dinner on 26 November on campus in joint effort with the Department as well as Alumni Affairs Office.

Attended by nearly 200 alumni graduating in different years spanning from 1960s and 2010s, students, as well as current and retired academic staff, the Dinner offered them a precious opportunity to reunite and re-connect again. President Prof. Roland Chin and Associate Vice-President (Engagement) Mr. C.K. Yeung also joined this special event to share the joy and spend a cozy evening with the attending alumni and guests.

At his welcome remarks, President Chin thanked the ardent support from alumni to the University and shared with them updates on HKBU development plan. He also expressed his wish to see the alumni come back to the alma mater more often, at least in the next anniversary dinner of the Department in a few years’ time, yet not to wait for another 55 years!

To commemorate this important milestone of the Department, championed by Prof. Zhang Hongsheng, Head of the Department of Chinese Language and Literature, four publications were specially produced and presented as souvenirs to all guests attending the Dinner. These four publications include a brief history book about the Department, two collections of academic and creative works by academic staff, and a commemorative booklet.

On the other hand, for the first time, alumnus Sidney Lui, President of the Alumni Association of the Department of Chinese Language and Literature announced at the Dinner that the set-up of a scholarship named after the Alumni Association was in the pipeline. With combined effort of the alumni, the Alumni Association aims to help support and nurture the next generations of the students of the Department through this meaningful deed.
