At the 55th Commencement on 17 November 2014, the University conferred honorary doctoral degrees on four distinguished persons for their academic or professional achievements and their remarkable contributions to society.
Prof. Bai Chunli, a renowned scientist, was awarded the degree of Doctor of Science, honoris causa. Dr. Cecil Chan Shu-on, a distinguished consulting engineer and entrepreneur, was awarded the degree of Doctor of Humanities, honoris causa. Mr. Hui Yin-fat, an outstanding leader in social welfare services, was awarded the degree of Doctor of Social Sciences, honoris causa. Dr. Johnnie To Kei-fung, a famous film director and producer, was awarded the degree of Doctor of Letters, honoris causa.
The University hosted the Council Dinner in honour of Honorary Doctorate Recipients on the same day. On behalf of the Council and the Court, Chairman Mr. Cheng Yan-kee extended his warmest welcome to the Honorary Doctorate Recipients, their family members and guests at his opening address.
Paying tribute to the Honorary Doctorate Recipients, famous radio programme host and producer alumnus John Woo Kai-wing (Communication) sang two wonderful songs as the finale of the event.
