Two Academy of Film Alumni Named Winners of First Feature Film Initiative

Two alumni of the Academy of Film (AF) were selected as winners in the Higher Education Institution Group of the 6th First Feature Film Initiative (FFFI). Each of them will receive HK$5 million in funding from the Film Development Fund set up by the HKSAR Government to take forward their winning film proposals and produce their first commercial feature films.

Alumna Yip Yuk-ying’s (Communication – Cinema & Television) film proposal The Wonder was selected as one of the award-winning films of the 6th First Feature Film Initiative (Higher Education Institution Group). The other winning film proposal was Gamer Girls, which was written and directed by alumna Sophie Yang (Film, Television and Digital Media).

Alumnus Ir. Dr. Tommy Lo Awarded Honorary Fellowship of Guangdong Institution of Engineers

Alumnus Ir. Dr. Tommy Lo (Civil Engineering) was awarded Founding Honorary Fellowship by the Guangdong Institution of Engineers at its Inauguration Ceremony on 11 July 2020. Congratulations to alumnus Ir. Dr. Lo!

Civil Engineering Alumni Appointed Chairman of the Civil Discipline Advisory Panel of The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers for Three Consecutive Terms

Alumnus Ir. Eric Chan (Civil Engineering) was appointed as Chairman of the Civil Discipline Advisory Panel of The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) for a term of three years with effect from August 2020. Since 2014, Civil Engineering alumni have been appointed to this position, with alumni Ir. Victor Lo and Ir. Yu Sai-yen serving for the term of 2017-2020 and 2014-2017 respectively.

The Civil Discipline Advisory Panel of HKIE is responsible for qualifying engineers and setting standards for training and admission of engineers for the Discipline.

Alumnus Dr. Gordon Tsui Launches a New Book

Alumnus Dr. Gordon Tsui recently launched a new book entitled《職場「徐」意門——離開新手村》. The book launching ceremony held on 4 July was well attended by guests and senior management of HKBU, including Mr. C K Yeung, Associate Vice-President (Engagement), and alumni Alex Leung, Tyrone Siu, Stephen Yau and Bernard Wu.

Besides, alumnus Dr. Tsui also organised an online career seminar for HKBU students on 16 July. Attending the seminar are veterans in the financial and securities sector, who shared with the audience their career paths in the industry. During the seminar, various speakers also committed, on behalf of their companies, a number of internship opportunities for HKBU students, helping them to get prepared for a very competitive job market amidst the pandemic.

Alumna Lee Wai-ling Releases Two New Books

Alumna Lee Wai-ling (Chinese Language and Literature) recently released two new books. The first book 《利瑪竇的奇妙人生》 contains more than 20 articles describing the life and deeds of Matteo Ricci, a Catholic missionary who came to China during the Ming Dynasty. In her other book 《李韡玲教你養生必懂的生活美事》, alumna Lee shares with readers her experiences and insights in staying healthy both in mind and body, including food therapies, exercises, spiritual care, etc.
