HKBU Century Club Organises Press Conference for Fundraising Screening of “The Shadow Box”

HKBU Century Club organised a press conference for its fundraising screening of “The Shadow Box” on HKBU campus on 6 August. Attending guests included Director alumnus Cheung Che-kwok (Communication), actors Elena Kong, Patra Au and Derek Wong, President of Century Club and Advisor of the Organising Committee alumnus Kent Tsui (Communication), Member of Century Club and Fundraising Chairman of the Organising Committee alumnus Ip Ka-po (Communication), Vice-President of Century Club and Executive Chairman of the Organising Committee alumna Yoki Chan (Secretarial Management), Patron and Vice-President of Century Club and Member of the Organising Committee alumna Esther Wong (Geography), Member of the Organising Committee alumna Jeanny Ng (Translation), and Director of Alumni Affairs Dr. Melanie Lee. Secretary of Century Club and Member of the Organising Committee alumna Dr. Helen Kwok (Communication) and Member of the Organising Committee alumnus Jimmy Mak (Communication) were Masters of Ceremonies.

Alumnus Ip Ka-po informed at the press conference that a fundraising screening of drama “The Shadow Box” would be held on 29 August. All proceeds, after deducting necessary expenses, will be used to support the Village CARE Campaign, which was launched recently by the University to support needy students including first-generation students, ethnic minority students and students with special educational needs. President Kent Tsui said that an establishment ceremony for the HKBU Alumni Theatre would be held at the fundraising screening. The Society aims at providing a platform for HKBU alumni and students to have performing arts training and develop their potentials and acting skills, so that they would be able to organise charity shows for their alma mater in the future. HKBU Alumni Theatre was honoured to have invited drama master and former lecturer of HKBU Dr. Chung King-fai to be the Chief Advisor, as well as veteran performers including alumni Cheung Che-kwok, Lawrence Cheng (Communication) and Lo Koon-lan (History) to be Advisors.

The drama “The Shadow Box” was written by American playwright Mr. Michael Cristofer. The play is about how three patients and their respective families live when the patients have reached the end of their treatment, bringing out some impressive messages about life.

HKBU Century Club Sponsors the 5th Forum (Hong Kong) on the Development of Chinese Medicine and the 11th Annual Meeting of the Global University Network of Traditional Medicine

HKBU Century Club sponsored the 5th Forum (Hong Kong) on the Development of Chinese Medicine and the 11th Annual Meeting of the Global University Network of Traditional Medicine, which was organised by School of Chinese Medicine and several organisations from the medical industry. Over 400 Chinese medicine experts attended to discuss the latest advances in Chinese medicine research and the role of Chinese medicine in global health care.

The Opening Ceremony on 30 June was officiated by Secretary for Food and Health of the HKSAR Government Prof. Sophia Chan, Director of Health of the HKSAR Government Dr. Constance Chan, President Prof. Roland Chin, Dean of Chinese Medicine Prof. Lyu Aiping and some other guests. Alumna Yoki Chan, Vice-President of the Club, was invited to attend the Ceremony on behalf of the Club.
