Recent Activities of Faculty of Science and Science Alumni Associations

Science Alumni Celebrates 55th Birthday of the Faculty of Science Around 150 participants including alumni joined the Faculty of Science’s Annual Spring Gathering at Shaw Campus in celebration of the Faculty’s 55th Anniversary on 27 February. Chairman of the Council and the Court Mr. Cheng Yan Kee reaffirmed the vital importance of “Science” as an integral part of the University’s academic enterprise while Acting Dean of the Faculty Prof. Liu Ji-ming encouraged participants to render their continuous support. The afternoon was full of fun and laughter thanks to the wonderful magic show by Mathematics alumnus Nero Cam and energetic dancing performance by members of Student Union Society of Dance Sport. Baptist Chemists Organizes Spring Reception and a Visit to Soy & Sauce Factory Baptist Chemists organized its Spring Reception on 27 February which was attended by nearly 55 alumni from the Department of Chemistry. Vice-President (Research and Development) Prof. Rick Wong and former heads of the Department, Prof. Albert Lee, Prof. Chan Wing-hong, Prof. Cai Zongwei and Prof. Ricky Wong were invited to attend the Reception. A visit to the Koon Chun Hing Kee Soy & Sauce Factory in Yuen Long was also held on 12 March with 45 Chemistry alumni and students attended. They also learnt the traditional brewing method for making soy sauce. Baptist Chemists has a happy gathering at Spring Reception.     Participants learn a lot at the Soy & Sauce Factory.

HKBU Biology Alumni Association Mentorship Programme cum Annual General Meeting 2016 With the Mentorship Programme launched by HKBU Biology Alumni Association and the Department of Biology last November, 23 students were recruited as mentees for the Programme. On 27 February, Associate Head of the Department Prof. Ken Yung, President of Biology Alumni Association alumnus Daniel Mui, and a number of mentors from different professions gathered at the Sharing Session to share their views and experience with the 12 participating mentees. The Alumni Association also took this opportunity to hold its Annual General Meeting 2016-2017, at which Executive Committee members were elected as follows: President: Mr. Daniel Mui     Vice-President(s): Mr. Eddy Lo Dr. Sam Lau     Secretary: Mr. Lai Ka Man     Treasurer: Mr. Stephen Sze     Committee Member (s): Mr. Shadrach Pak Ms. PercyTo Mr. Albert Wong Mr. William Tse Mr. Gary Leung Ms. Zhou Shunli    Biology buddies have a great evening.
