HKBU Alumni and Staff Attend Samsung 2013 Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards Presentation Ceremony

Supporting sports development in Hong Kong, academic staff of the University including Associate Vice-President Prof. Frank Fu, Prof. Cheung Siu-yin and Prof. Chow Bik-chu of Department of Physical Education together with a good number of HKBU’s alumni and students attended the “Samsung 2013 Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards Presentation Ceremony” held on 13 March 2014.

Associate Vice-President Prof. Frank Fu, being the Chairman of Elite Sports Committee, was invited to present the Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards to the awardees at the Ceremony.

New Publication by Alumna Alice Mo Moo-ching (Chinese Language and Literature)

Alumna Alice Mo Moo-ching (Chinese Language and Literature) has recently published her collection of prose to commemorate her beloved mother who passed away 10 years ago. Alumna Mo is now giving away 50 free copies exclusively for HKBU alumni. Interested parties, please e-mail your name and contact number to alumni@hkbu.edu.hk.

HKBU Alumni Association Co-organises “Live a Green Life - Hydroponics” Seminar

With a view to advocating green living, HKBU Alumni Association co-organised a seminar on “Live a Green Life - Hydroponics” with Tunghai University Alumni Association Hong Kong and 12 other university alumni associations on 14 March 2014 at Highwise Service Foundation Limited of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office. The seminar attracted some 100 participants. Having a wealth of experience in environmental protection, guest speaker Mr. Tsang Hon-kit shared with the audience the latest development and ways of promoting hydroponics. He also demonstrated hydroponics during the seminar.

HKBU Baptist Chemists Spring Fiesta

With a view to strengthening the connection among teachers, students and alumni, HKBU Baptist Chemists jointly organised a Career Talk with the Department of Chemistry and Student Chemistry Society on 15 January 2014 at Ho Sin Hang Campus. The Talk was well-attended by over 20 students with the presence of Prof Chan Wing-hong from the Department of Chemistry as one of the guest speakers.

In addition, HKBU Baptist Chemists held a number of get-together activities in spring. On 26 January 2014, over 30 members and families went for hiking at Yan Chau Tong Marine Park located in the northeast coast of Plover Cove Country Park. They also organised another hiking trip at Violet Hill of Tai Tam Country Park on 23 February 2014.

HKBU Social Work Alumni Association –Annual General Meeting and Gathering with MSSSW Alumni

HKBU Social Work Alumni Association (SOWKAA) held an Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 11 January 2014. Agenda items included the Chairman’s Report, Treasurer’s Report, Report from Learning and Exchange Foundation Fund, and Re-election of Executive Committee were discussed. After the AGM, Certificates of Appreciation were presented to alumni who have contributed to the Association throughout the year and the annual dinner was held.

Also, representatives from SOWKAA joined a reunion organised by HKBU Department of Social Work for alumni of Master of Social Sciences in Social Work (MSSSW) on 27 February 2014. Representatives introduced the initiatives of SOWKAA so as to deepen ties with MSSSW alumni. Prof. Petrus Ng Yat-nam, Head of Department of Social Work also elaborated on the future development of the Department. The gathering was well-received by more than 40 alumni.
