Recent Activities of Various HKBU Alumni Associations

HKBU Social Work Alumni Association (SOWKAA) organised a visit to the United International College (UIC) BNU-HKBU on 17 and 18 March 2012 and to get to know more about the welfare development in Zhuhai.

The delegates visited the Zhuhai Neighborhood Mutual Aid Society, a joint venture between UIC and the local government and a Children’s Home where UIC social work students have their field practice. The visit deepened their understanding on Zhuhai’s welfare service.

The delegates also attended UIC’s Homecoming Day. They exchanged views with the faculty members on social work training and the cooperation with SOWKAA. They also shared with students why they chose of social work as a life-long career. Two alumni introduced their projects on the elderly and the disabled.

HKBUAA of Ontario’s Spring Dinner and Inauguration of the 12th Executive Committee

HKBU Alumni Association of Ontario hosted the annual signature event on 18 March 2012 at Diamond Banquet Hall in Markham. Filled with passion and remembrance for their alma mater, over a hundred alumni across the 60s to 90s and guests gathered and shared the happiness in this special occasion.

Other than HKBU alumni, guests from the Hong Kong Joint Universities Alumni Association (Ontario) including the Presidents and representatives of another six higher education institutions namely, Chu Hai College of Higher Education, Hong Kong Shue Yan University, Lingnan University, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and The University of Hong Kong also joined the event.

After singing HKBU anthem and witnessing the inauguration ceremony of executive committee members and consultants (Please click here for the list), alumni and guests enjoyed the singing performance, quiz game on “How well you know about HKBU?” and lucky draw.

The Hong Kong Joint Universities Alumni Association (Ontario) organizes large-scale sporting events every year. The Joint U 2012 Bowling Tournament will be held in May while the Joint U 2012 Hong Kong Cup Table Tennis Tournament in collaboration with Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (Toronto) will be held in November.

The HKBU Chinese Medicine Alumni Association - A Study Group on the Treatment of Stroke by Acupuncture

The HKBU Chinese Medicine Alumni Association (CMAA) held a study-group for discussion of treatment of stroke by acupuncture on 22 Mar 2012.

Benson Chan, one of the first graduates of the School of Chinese Medicine, was invited as the keynote speaker. Led by alumnusYeung, 16 participants discussed the acupuncture and medical treatment of stroke.

The discussion lasted for 2 hours. Participants were enthusiastic in sharing their experiences and views.

Four Alumni Associations Jointly Held Their First Alumni Sharing Forum

HKBU Alumni Association, HKBU School of Business Alumni Association, Corporate Governance and Directorship (HKBU) Society and HKBU MBA Alumni Association held an alumni sharing forum “What shall we do to preserve our wealth” on 23 March 2012 (Friday) night at Metropol Restaurant. The event was supported by alumni, as well as a number of students, highlighting the important role of alumni association in helping the younger members of HKBU.

The keynote speaker was Alumnus Harrison Ho (Economics) who has more than 20 years of experience in wealth management area, is the Managing Director and Head of Wealth Management Department of Nomura International (Hong Kong) Limited. He shared his insights of the Hong Kong stock market and his investment ideas. He highlightedthe investment opportunities under the current low interest rate environment, and discussed some relevant investment strategies and derivative products.
