Alumna Kitty Lun Kit-ying
With profound sadness, the University mourns the passing of Ms Kitty Lun Kit-ying, renowned advertising veteran and recipient of HKBU’s Distinguished Alumni Award. Ms Lun passed away on 31 August 2026, at the age of 71.
Lauded as the “Queen of Public Service Advertising in Hong Kong”, Ms Lun was the creative mastermind behind numerous household advertising campaigns. She has irrevocably transformed the advertising industry with her brilliant genius, unrivalled vision and exemplary leadership. Born and raised in Hong Kong, Ms Lun graduated from the communication programme at HKBU. She then completed her Master’s degree at New York’s Syracuse University, before joining numerous award-winning global agencies and gaining a reputation as a legendary advertising titan.
Over the years, Ms Lun channelled her passion and creative flair into creating countless masterpieces of ingenuity. Some of her best-known works include public service campaigns such as the compelling television advertising series for Hong Kong’s Independent Commission Against Corruption, and the campaign themed “Life Has No Take 2” for Hong Kong’s youth crime prevention initiative.
Apart from her unparalleled contributions to the global advertising industry, Ms Lun has been highly recognised by her alma maters. In 2008, she was awarded the HKBU Distinguished Alumni Communicator Award (Public Relations, Advertising and Communication Category), and in 2015 she was named one of the 50 most accomplished alumni of S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications of Syracuse University. In 2018, she was honoured with HKBU’s Distinguished Alumni Award.
Speaking to the graduating students at the School of Communication’s Commencement ceremony in June this year, Ms Lun inspired the audience with a powerful message about safeguarding the communicator’s vital role and the value of the human experience in an AI-driven era. She reminded students that the School’s motto, “Truth is Virtue” (唯真為善), is not just a slogan on the wall; in a world drowning in digital noise, it is a young communicator’s competitive edge. Ms Lun’s wisdom and conviction will no doubt continue to illuminate young minds as they begin new chapters of their own.
Fondly remembered and sorely missed by friends and all those whose lives she touched, Ms Lun’s vibrant spirit, zest for life, and creative legacy will live on through her timeless work.
The University community would like to convey our heartfelt condolences to Ms Lun’s family, friends and colleagues. Her lasting impact on Hong Kong’s creative industry will remain a source of inspiration and be remembered with profound awe and respect.
