Alumnus Professor Sunny Wong shares his leadership experiences and insights.

On 27 August, alumnus Professor Sunny Wong (Business Management), Chairman of HKBU Foundation Alumni Committee, was invited by the Left-Right Circles Academy to serve as a guest speaker, where he shared his insights on “Servant Leadership”. Drawing from his practical experience as former Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Carlsberg Greater China, Professor Wong shared his experience in achieving exceptional leadership through “serving the team”. He emphasised that true leaders should lead by example, listen to employees, and empower them with trust.

Alumna Ho Yuen-kei (China Studies), who won two gold medals in both the Boccia Women’s Individual BC3 and Mixed Pairs BC3 events respectively at the Paris 2024 Paralympics Games, was awarded “Best Female Athlete” by the Asian Paralympic Committee. Congratulations to alumna Ho!

Alumnus Professor William Leung Wing-cheung (English Language & Literature) has been re-appointed by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China as Chairman of the Legal Aid Services Council for a term of two years with effect from 1 September 2025. Alumnus Samuel Lam (Business Administration), Founder and CEO of X Social Group Holdings Limited has recently been appointed by the Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism as Member of the CreateSmart Initiative Vetting Committee for a term of two years with effect from 1 August 2025. Alumnus Arthur Lam Tsz-fung Awarded the Greater Bay Area Young Leader Award

Alumnus Arthur Lam Tsz-fung (History) was awarded The Greater Bay Area Young Leader Award at the Greater Bay Area Young Leaders Selection 2025, organises by JCI Harbour, in recognition of his outstanding achievements in his profession. The presentation ceremony was hosted on 6 July 2025. Congratulations to alumnus Lam!

Alumna Cherry Ngan Cheuk-ling Awarded at the 34th Woods Hole Film Festival

Alumna Cherry Ngan Cheuk-ling (English Language & Literature) was recently awarded Best Performance (Adult – Feature Film) for her role in the movie Revisit at the 34th Woods Hole Film Award. Congratulations to alumna Ngan!

In Memory of Dr Cha Liu Bie Ju

Dr Cha Liu Bie Ju

The University is deeply saddened by the passing of Dr Cha Liu Bie Ju (Honorary Doctorate), who left us at the age of 110.

Dr Cha was a renowned industrialist and philanthropist with a deep dedication to society and charity, including served as Chairperson of Board of Directors of Yan Chai Hospital. In 1999, asteroid Number 3960 was named in her honour, a distinguished tribute to her exceptional service to the public.

Dr Cha was also a dedicated supporter of the University’s development, to which she made significant and lasting contributions.

The University community would like to convey our heartfelt condolences to Dr Cha’s family at this time of bereavement. She will always be remembered for her wholehearted support and contribution to the development of HKBU, and as a beloved and respected member of the HKBU community.
