Alumnus James Wong Shares his Wisdom for Newcomers at Workplace with Students and Young Alumni at Chill Chat

The event gathers students and young alumni together and allows them to engage in fruitful exchanges with alumni guests.

The Alumni Affairs Office organised Chill Chat on 11 July which featured alumnus James Wong (Psychology; Human Resources Management), currently serves as the Head of HR for Asia at Marks & Spencer. Revolving around the theme “Attitude determines altitude? As a newcomer in the workplace, how to win people’s heart”, James shared his career experiences and insights on essential qualities at workplace.

The event began with a keynote speech given by James, who shared his knowledge on talent development at work. Through an interactive game, James emphasised the importance of understanding oneself and upholding a positive attitude in the workplace. He explained that a positive attitude should include aspects such as positivity, professionalism, initiative and resilience, and it is instrumental in establishing good relationships and creating a harmonious work environment, eventually paving the way to a successful career.

Following his insightful sharing, James was joined by two alumni guests, alumni Sean Fong (Psychology; Social Work), Chief Executive, The Hong Kong Society for the Blind and Tony Leung (Psychology; Social Work), Regional Service Administrator (East Kowloon), The Society for the Aid and Rehabilitation of Drug Abusers, who took turns to do sharing and discussion in groups with participants who were glad to have obtained professional advice and inspirations from the alumni guests while enjoying a relaxing dinner in a cosy ambience. The event was successful in providing a valuable opportunity for the students to prepare themselves for a promising career.

Chill Chat, firstly introduced in 2021, is an innovative engagement platform where students and alumni can closely interact with each other in a relaxing ambience. Chill Chat provides students and young alumni with the opportunity to widen their horizons in areas of personal growth, career development and network building via close encounters with our eminent alumni at the event.
