The School of Business and the Alumni Affairs Office jointly presented a talk on 6 March, attracting over 320 registrants, including students, alumni, faculty members and guests of the HKBU community. Titled “From Asset Allocation to Wealth Accumulation: The Practical Application of Financial Planning”, the talk provided a broad introduction to the strategy of wealth management and asset allocation.

The event commenced with a welcoming remark from Professor Zhang Han, Dean of the School of Business. In his remark, Professor Zhang highlighted the interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary initiatives of the School which aim to foster a vibrant and innovative research environment that address complex global challenges and prepare our students for the dynamic future.

The talk featured Professor Billy Mak, Associate Professor of Practice in the Department of Accountancy, Economics and Finance as the keynote speaker who provided an overview of asset allocations and wealth management.

Following Professor Mak’s sharing, a panel discussion featuring Mr Eddy Chan, General Manager of the External Affairs Division of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA), and alumnus Dr Anthony Ng (BBA), Co-Founder & CEO of Hong Kong Virtual Asset Exchange, was conducted. The discussion deep-delved into several topics, including an overview of the MPF statistics, and asset allocation and its performance in the MPF platform. The discussion also explored digital assets in Chinese Mainland and the future trends of virtual asset and its regulatory framework. During the panel discussion, participants actively participated in the Q&A session, posing thought-provoking questions for further discussion.

After the panel discussion, Professor Zhang Han presented souvenirs as tokens of appreciation to Mr Eddy Chan and alumnus Dr Anthony Ng for their valuable insights after the panel discussion.

This talk, jointly presented by the School of Business and the Alumni Affairs Office, aims to highlight the significant contributions our pre-eminent faculty members, professors and alumni have made in their remarkable journey of knowledge discovery. Through this faculty-students-alumni engagement initiative, both offices hope to shine light on the achievement of our faculty members, nurture future-shaping students and engage alumni who bring transformative impact to society.
