HKBU Century Club Organises Spring Dinner

Participating alumni and guests enjoy the dinner to the full.

On 8 March, HKBU Century Club held a spring dinner at the Regal Kowloon Hotel. Over 40 alumni members and guests gathered to enjoy the festive atmosphere of the Lunar New Year. Dr Melanie Lee, Director of Alumni Affairs, also attended on behalf of the University and enjoyed getting together with the alumni.

To celebrate the International Women’s Day on the same day, HKBU Century Club thoughtfully presented the attending ladies with carnations.

During the dinner, singing performance and lucky draw were featured, which created much fun and excitement. All the guests enjoyed a pleasant time together.

HKBU Century Club Representatives Pay a Chinese New Year’s Visit to Macau University of Science and Technology

Led by President and Patron of HKBU Century Club alumna Dr Marianna Tsang (Secretarial Management), a group of HKBU Century Club representatives including Past President alumnus Kent Tsui (Communication), alumni Kelvin Wu (Business Management) and Chan Chek-biu (Communication) paid a Chinese New Year’s visit to Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) on 22 February. They met President Emeritus of HKBU and Honorary President of the Club, Dr Daniel Tse and his spouse Mrs Kitty Tse, Patron of the Club and MUST Chancellor alumnus Dr Liu Chak-wan (English Language & Literature), President of HKBU Alumni Association of Macau alumnus Paul Pang (Mathematics) and alumna Evi Ian (Mathematics) over lunch and took the chance to discuss the latest activities of Century Club. 

HKBU Century Club Annual General Meeting 2023 cum Dinner Gathering

HKBU Century Club hosted its Annual General Meeting (AGM) 2023 cum dinner gathering at Regal Kowloon Hotel on 13 December 2023. The dinner was graced by the presence of Professor Martin Wong, Provost of HKBU; Ms Christine Chow, Vice-President (Administration) and Secretary; Dr Monique Wan, Associate Dean (Taught Postgraduate Studies) of the School of Business and Director of the MBA and MSc Business Management (MScBM) programmes; Professor Byron Choi, Associate Head (Teaching and Learning) and Professor of Department of Computer Science; Dr Matthew Lui, Assistant Professor of Department of Chemistry; Professor Henry Fock, Director of Student Affairs; Mrs Lily Chan, Director of University Advancement; alumni Dr Chiu Chun-bong (Business Administration), Herman Lau (Sociology), Professor William Leung (English Language and Literature), So Wing-kin (Civil Engineering), Professor James Tsien (Business Management), Professor Sunny Wong (Business Management) and Wong Nga-chung (Business Management), and a number of alumni and guests.

During the AGM, alumna Dr Marianna Tsang (Secretarial Management), Patron and President of the Club, presented the President’s report on the activities and achievements in the past year. She also expressed her gratitude to the Board of Directors, Patrons, members of event organising committees, the Honorary Auditor Patrick Wong CPA, various departments and offices of the University, and the Alumni Affairs Office for their unfailing support to the Club over the years.

After the AGM, Prof Martin Wong delivered a remark and expressed his deep appreciation of the Club for the staunch support rendered to the University in the past years. On behalf of the Club, Marianna welcomed alumni Alex Ma (Physics) and Dr Kevin Yue (Chinese Medicine) for joining the Club as new members and presented them a membership pin together with Prof Martin Wong and Ms Christine Chow.

Facilitated by alumna Dr Tsang, Dr Cook Chiu had made a generous donation to the University for supporting the HKBU Century Club Sponsorship Scheme 2023 and became a Patron of the Club. At the dinner, Marianna, on Dr. Chiu’s behalf, received a certificate of appreciation from Prof Martin Wong and Ms Christine Chow.

Taking the opportunity, the judging panel of the Century Club Sponsorship Scheme 2023 and the attending representatives of the beneficiary projects (Please click here to view the Scheme’s result) took a group photo. Also, alumni Dr Mui Kwong-chiu (Communication); Dr Marianna Tsang, Kent Tsui (Communication), Past President/Ex-officio Director; Ip Ka-po (Communication), Vice-President; and Esther Wong (Geography; Social Work), Patron and Vice-President and Wong Nga-chung, Patron, presented certificate to the winning students of the reflection competition of Border Town sharing session.

HKBU Century Club Sponsors AI x HK OpenCup 2023

Through the HKBU Century Club C&C Charitable Fund Dr Chiu Chi Sing and Ms Yeung Woon Bing Sponsorship Scheme 2023, HKBU Century Club (the Club) sponsored the AI x HK OpenCup 2023, which was co-organised by HKBU Faculty of Science, Department of Computer Science and Hong Kong Society of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics. On 25 November 2023, alumna Dr Marianna Tsang (Secretarial Management), Patron and President of the Club; and Dr Chiu Chi-sing, Patron of the Club, attended the Award Presentation Ceremony and presented the Best Innovation Award to the winning teams.

AI x HK OpenCup 2023 is an innovative artificial intelligence (AI) competition, which attracted nearly 400 students from secondary schools and tertiary institutions to participate. The participants showcased their creativity and demonstrated how they could leverage AI technologies and collaborative efforts to address the issues in Hong Kong and to align with the sustainable development goals set forth by the United Nations, including good health and well-being, affordable and clean energy, decent work and economic growth, and sustainable cities and communities.
