The School of Business and Alumni Affairs Office Jointly Organise Two Sharing Events of “A Business Ensemble: Dialogues with Alumni Leaders”
HKBU has nurtured over 158,000 graduates since its inception in 1956 and a considerable number of these alumni have risen to become influential business leaders in the global arena. Recognising the wealth of knowledge and experience among its alumni, the Alumni Affairs Office joined hands with the School of Business to organise a sharing series, named “A Business Ensemble: Dialogues with Alumni Leaders”, featuring distinguished faculty members from the School of Business and accomplished alumni leaders on topics relating to the business landscape and emerging trends around the globe. The sharing series provides a valuable platform for alumni leaders to share their experience and wisdom with current students and fellow alumni.
Two sharing events were held respectively on 20 January and 6 March on the HKBU campus, attracting a total of over 310 students, alumni and guests to attend. Professor Cheng Yuk-shing, Interim Dean of the School of Business, welcomed everyone in his opening remarks in both events. The events were graced by the presence of Ms Christine Chow, Vice-President (Administration) and Secretary, who presented souvenirs to the alumni speakers as a gesture of appreciation towards the end of the sharing.
The first event comprised two sharing sessions, with the first one showcasing the expertise of alumnus Professor James Tsien (Business Management), Director of Bank of Shanghai (Hong Kong) Ltd. and former Group Executive Director of Hutchison Port Holdings Ltd., who delivered an enlightening talk on the topic “A Local Company Turning Global- A Recipe for the Management”. Alumnus Prof Tsien was then joined by Prof Cheng Yuk-shing for a stimulating conversation, exchanging views on the subject matter. The second sharing session featured alumnus Professor Sunny Wong (Business Management), former Chairman of Carlsberg Greater China, as the speaker and Professor Xu Huang, Associate Dean (Research & Impact) of the School of Business as the moderator. Prof Huang engaged in a captivating discussion with alumnus Prof Wong, during which they shared their experiences and insights on the topic “The Journey of Mission Impossible through Servant Leadership”.
The second event featured alumna Kitty Lun (Communication), Director and Head of Creative Shop, Greater China, Meta; and alumnus Andrew Wong (Business Administration), Chief Executive Officer, Health and Beauty, DFI Retail Group, as the speakers. The sharing session was moderated by Dr Monique Wan, Associate Professor and Associate Dean (Taught Postgraduate Studies) of the School of Business. Alumna Kitty Lun, alumnus Andrew Wong and Dr Monique Wan engaged in an enlightening discussion revolving around the topic “Beyond Gender: Impact of Female Leadership and Male Alliance on DE&I in the Corporate World”, during which the alumni speakers offered insights and advice in relation to the pertinent subject matter.
In both events, the audience were enthusiastic to ask questions that showed their genuine interest in the topic, and they also learned a great deal through the sharing of the alumni speakers.
