HKBU Recognises Four Distinguished Alumni at The Ninth Distinguished Alumni Award Presentation Ceremony
The Ninth Distinguished Alumni Award (DAA) Presentation Ceremony was held on 26 June on HKBU campus to recognise eminent alumni for their outstanding business, professional and scholarly achievements, as well as their service and contributions to the University and society. The four distinguished alumni being honoured are: Mr Chan King-yin (Physical Education and Recreation Management), Ms Lo Koon-lan (History), Mr Stephen Yau How-boa (Social Work) and Professor Zheng Wanhua (Physics). Following the ceremony, a sharing session titled “A Dialogue with Distinguished Alumni” was held.
In his welcome remarks, Dr Clement Chen, Chairman of the Council and the Court and Chairman of the DAA Selection Committee, paid tribute to the four award recipients, who have excelled in their own profession and demonstrated the essence of professionalism and excellence, making substantial contributions to the community and society at large. He encouraged students and young alumni to value the opportunity to learn from the wisdom and insights gleaned from the experiences of these distinguished alumni.
In his Vote of Thanks, Professor Alexander Wai, President and Vice-Chancellor, congratulated the four Award recipients, emphasising their shared traits of being life-long learners and contributors with open minds. He also took the opportunity to share the encouraging news of recent leap in various university rankings of the University and recognised the unwavering support of alumni for the University’s development.
As part of the award presentation, a video clip showcasing the significant accomplishments of each of the award recipients was shown. The recipients expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the University for conferring the award to them.
Following the ceremony, a sharing session moderated by Dr Monique Wan, Associate Dean (Taught Postgraduate Studies) of the School of Business was held where the award recipients shared their inspirational stories, wisdom and experiences. The session was broadcast live capturing a wider HKBU community.
Before the ceremony, Chairman Chen hosted a luncheon on campus, which was attended by the award recipients and their beloved ones, President Wai, members of the Selection Committee, including Founder and Chairman of the Bright Future Charitable Foundation and Honorary President of the Federation of Hong Kong Industries Dr Roy Chung, Former Executive Director of the Vocational Training Council Dr Carrie Willis and Former Commissioner for Innovation and Technology of HKSAR Government Miss Janet Wong, and the University’s senior management.
The DAA is an important event of the University, and it receives widespread recognition and support from its community. The University expresses sincere gratitude to all members of the DAA Selection Committee for their invaluable insights and tireless efforts throughout the selection process. Their contribution was instrumental in ensuring the success of the award.
