Alumna Vickie Ho Shares her Career Insights with Students and Young Alumni at Chill Chat

Students and young alumni gather and enjoy inspirational exchanges.

Organised by the Alumni Affairs Office, the second Chill Chat in 2023 was successfully held on 21 June at HKBU Lounge. Alumna Vickie Ho (Communication – Applied Communication Studies), Director of Marketing and Communications at Rosewood Hong Kong, was invited to be the keynote speaker and shared her career insights and life wisdom with the theme “You don’t need a perfect resume to land your dream/first job”. The event attracted 21 students and young alumni to join.

The event began with a keynote speech given by Vickie, who openly shared her personal stories throughout her career development. From Lane Crawford to Rosewood, Vickie has been painstakingly building up her profile and gaining fruitful experiences in marketing, public relations, and communications. As an exceptionally creative person, she believes that “everybody can create”, and creativity can be learned through a wide range of experience. Vickie offered three important tips to students and young alumni: one should never say never, embrace changes, and demonstrate a sense of openness to potential employers. One’s resume matters, but attitude and passion matter even more when it comes to job interviews. Participants were all impressed by Vickie’s road to success.

After her sharing, Vickie, together with two alumni guests, alumni Sherman Yu (Communication – Applied Communication Studies), Vice President, Corporate Communications, Everbright Securities International, and Wong Tsun Yin (Communication – Cinema and Television), Video and Film Director, Founder of Farland Production, mingled with participants in small groups under a relaxing and cosy ambience while enjoying a buffet dinner. Attendees reflected that they received a lot of professional advice and precious inspirations through interacting with the three alumni guests coming from diverse backgrounds. It was indeed a great opportunity for students and young alumni to start thinking about their career prospects.

Chill Chat, firstly introduced in 2021, is an innovative engagement platform where students and alumni can closely interact with each other in a casual setting. Chill Chat provides students and young alumni with the opportunity to widen their horizons in areas of personal growth, career development and network building via close encounters with our eminent alumni at the event.
