HKBU Century Club Annual General Meeting 2022 cum Dinner Gathering

Participating alumni and guests enjoy the dinner gathering to the fullest.

HKBU Century Club hosted its Annual General Meeting (AGM) 2022 cum dinner gathering at Regal Kowloon Hotel on 16 December 2022. The dinner was graced by the presence of Dr Albert Chau, Vice-President (Teaching and Learning) of HKBU; Professor Cheah Kok-wai, Dr Elizabeth K. S. Law Endowed Professor in Advanced Materials and Chair Professor of the Department of Physics of HKBU; Professor Zhang Hongjie, Director and Professor (Teaching and Research Division) of the School of Chinese Medicine; alumnus The Hon Edmund Wong (Accountancy; Applied Accounting and Finance); alumni Professor William Leung (English Language and Literature), Professor James Tsien (Business Management) and Wong Nga-chung (Business Management); Dr Melanie Lee, Director of Alumni Affairs; and a number of alumni and guests.

During the AGM, President of the Club alumnus Kent Tsui (Communication), who would step down from serving as the Club’s President, presented his President’s Report on the Club’s activities and achievements in the past year. He also expressed his deepest gratitude to the Board of Directors, Patrons, the Honorary Auditor Patrick Wong CPA Limited, alumna Dr Marianna Tsang (Secretarial Management), Patron and Past President/Ex-officio Director, and her company for providing the voluntary company secretarial services to the Club, and the Alumni Affairs Office for their valuable advice and unwavering support to the Club over the years.

After that, alumnus Professor James Tsien, Chairman of Election Committee, conducted the election of the new Board of Directors for the term of 2022 to 2024, and the Board composed of the following members was unanimously elected.

Patrick Wong CPA Limited was reappointed as Honorary Auditor for the year ahead.

In celebration of the 100th birthday of Professor Yang Chen-ning, HKBU Honorary Doctorate, the Club sponsored the birthday gift designed and produced by the Department of Physics and the Academy of Visual Arts. Professor Cheah Kok-wai was invited to share this meaningful project to the attending guests at the dinner. Professor Cheah also arranged to send the scratch-resistant mobile screen protector, which is invented by him, to all the guests as souvenir. In the lucky draw, The Hon Edmund Wong also won the mobile screen protector produced with a patented technology “Sapphire Thin Film Coated Substrate”.

Facilitated by alumna Dr Marianna Tsang, Patron and President of the Club, Dr Cook Chiu Chi-sing had made a generous donation to the University for establishing a scholarship for outstanding students from Bachelor of Chinese Medicine and Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Biomedical Science. During the dinner, Dr Chiu presented a donation cheque to Dr Albert Chau and Prof Zhang Hongjie who received it on behalf of the University. Taking this opportunity, Dr Albert Chau, alumni Dr Marianna Tsang and Kent Tsui also presented a certificate of appreciation to Dr Chiu for serving as the Club’s Senior Fellow.

HKBU Century Club Co-organises a Charity Cantonese Opera

Participants enjoy the event to the full.

The Charity Cantonese Opera co-organised by HKBU Century Club and The HeArt Touch Charity Foundation was held successfully at the Asia Television (ATV) Studio on 7 January. Enthusiastic alumni including Dr Marianna Tsang (Secretarial Management), Patron and President of the Club cum Treasurer of the Event Organising Committee; Kent Tsui (Communication), Past President/Ex-officio Director of the Club cum Consultant of the Event Organising Committee; Esther Wong (Geography; Social Work), Patron and Vice-President of the Club cum Co-chairwoman of the Event Organising Committee; Yoki Chan (Secretarial Management), Vice-President of the Club cum Vice-chairwoman of the Event Organising Committee; Ip Ka-po (Communication), Vice-President of the Club cum Producer of the event; Mandy Kam (Sociology), Maria Lee (Chinese Language and Literature), Lee Yuk-wah (Chinese Language and Literature) and John Woo (Communication), were keen to participate in the performance. Other Cantonese opera veterans and guests were also invited to perform in the show, including Mr Loong Koon-tin, Ms Tang Mi-ling, Mr Ruan Demin, Miss Sum Yung, Mrs Fanny Hau, Founder and Chairman of The HeArt Touch Charity Foundation cum Co-chairwoman of the Event Organising Committee; Ms Chow Siu-kwan, Mr Ho Man-chiu, Ms Leung Yuk-yee and Ms Yu Yuk-ho. The event attracted a full house of audience.

As finale, alumni and guests sing classic pop songs and the birthday song for HKBU which was written last year.

Proceeds of the show, excluding the expenses of the event, would be donated to the HKBU Century Club Fund to provide financial support to HKBU students for enriching their learning experiences and self-enhancement.
