Congratulations to the following alumni and friends, who have been appointed by the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China, as the Chairman, Vice-chairman and members of the Hong Kong Arts Development Council (HKADC) for a term of three years with effect from 1 January 2026:

HKBU Alumni and Friends Assume Board Roles of the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority

Alumna Grace Lau Mo-sheung Wins at the World Karate Championships and is selected as “The Ten Outstanding Young Persons”

Alumna Grace Lau Mo-sheung (Creative Communication) won champion at the World Karate Championship held in Cairo, Egypt, on 30 November. She made history as the first athlete from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China to have secured a world title in Kata. 

Alumna Lau was also selected as one of the “Ten Outstanding Young Persons (TOYP) 2025” by the Junior Chamber International Hong Kong, China (JCIHK) on 2 October. She attended the TOYP award presentation ceremony online, where she expressed gratitude to her family for their unwavering support.  She also hopes that more people in Hong Kong can embrace the spirit of the “way (道)”, daring to break through and take on challenges, pursue their goals, and persevere to the very end.

Alumnus Edmund Wong Chun-sek selected as “The Ten Outstanding Young Persons”

The Junior Chamber International Hong Kong, China (JCIHK) announced the list of the “Ten Outstanding Young Persons (TOYP) 2025” on 2 October and alumnus Edmund Wong Chun-sek (Accountancy; Applied Accounting & Finance) was selected this year. 

Alumnus Edmund Wong Chun-sek, he is a seasoned accountant. He joined the Auxiliary Medical Service at the age of 16 and has actively participated in public first-aid training through various organisations for more than a decade. Alumnus Wong admits that balancing work duties with community service is not easy, but he believes that meaningful work is worth doing. He also hopes to inspire more people to work together to bring positive and constructive influence to society.

PERM & SLM Alumni Gather at Kai Tak to Support Hong Kong Football Team

Alumni from the Physical Education & Recreation Management (PERM) and Sport and Leisure Management (SLM) programmes gathered at Kai Tak Stadium to cheer on the Hong Kong football team in the 2027 AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers – Third Round match against Bangladesh and Singapore, which was held on 14 October and 18 November respectively.

Alumni Lam Kam-fai (Physical Education & Recreation Management; Sport & Leisure Management), the Chairperson of the Alumni Association of Physical Education Department Post-graduate Studies, HKBU (AAPEG) and Aaron Chan Chi-pun (Physical Education & Recreation Studies), the President of the HKBU Physical Education and Recreation Management Alumni Association (PERMAA) also joined, leading fellow alumni in supporting local sports and community events.

These two meaningful gatherings celebrated not only football, but also the enduring spirit of alumni unity.

Organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the “Hong Kong Artists” Series recently presented a vocal recital by soprano alumna Viola Cheung (Music) which was successfully held on November 13 at the Hong Kong City Hall Theatre. This series aims to provide a platform for local artists to showcase their exceptional musical talents. During the concert, alumna Cheung delivered passionate performances of operatic arias and contemporary works, accompanied by alumna Leona Cheung (Music) on piano. Their collaboration captivated the audience, leading them into a delightful world of music.

The University is deeply saddened by the passing of alumnus Lam Sheung-mo (Communication) who left us at the age of 75.

Alumnus Lam Sheung-mo, a passionate advocate for the performing arts, was once a prominent figure on stage, in film, and on television, playing a key role in Hong Kong’s theatre industry. Though illness later led him behind the scenes, his commitment never wavered, he continued to champion drama and make contributions to the community.

The University community would like to convey our heartfelt condolences to alumnus Lam’s family.
