The University is deeply saddened by the passing of Dr Peter KK Wong, the recipient of the degree of Doctor of Social Sciences, honoris causa from HKBU in 2010, on 2 November.
Leaving behind a legacy of remarkable generosity and unwavering dedication to the advancement of education, Dr Wong, Chairman of the Kum Shing Group, was a staunch supporter and esteemed member of the HKBU community. His association with HKBU spans over two decades, during which he and his family have made substantial contributions to the University. Since 2001, their generosity through the Kum Shing Group has supported various initiatives, including the establishment of the Hong Kong Baptist University Affiliated School Wong Kam Fai Secondary and Primary School, the Kum Shing Group Scholarship Fund for Mainland Students, the Albert and Mabel Chan Exchange Scholarship, and the overall institutional advancement of the University.
His commitment to HKBU extended far beyond financial contributions. Dr Wong actively served in numerous vital roles within the HKBU community. He was a much valued Court member of HKBU from 2005 to 2011, where his wisdom and guidance influenced the University’s strategic direction. He also held significant positions, including Vice-Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Hong Kong Baptist University Foundation, Co-Chairman of the Entrepreneur Committee, Honorary Permanent President of the Hong Kong Baptist University Foundation and more.
The University community would like to convey our heartfelt condolences to Dr Wong’s family at this time of bereavement. Dr Wong will be remembered as a cherished member of the HKBU community, and his enduring impact will inspire us to continue his vision for excellence in education.
