HKBU Alumni Association of Ontario Holds 2021 Annual Dinner cum 2022/2023 Committee Member Election

HKBU Alumni Association of Ontario (HKBUAAO) held its Annual General Meeting cum 2022/2023 Committee Member Election during its Annual Dinner on 28 November (Toronto time). Despite the adverse weather which was brought about by the heavy snow, around 60 alumni, beloved friends and guests from the alumni associations of sister universities joined the gathering. All guests enjoyed a wonderful evening catching up with each other.

Professor Alexander Wai, President and Vice-Chancellor of HKBU, has pre-recorded a video to convey his opening remarks for the annual dinner, in which he thanked alumnus Alfred Au-Yeung (Communication) for his contributions in leading HKBUAAO during his presidency. Alumni and guests were all thankful for and impressed by President Wai’s update on the recent developments and achievements of the University, especially the news that HKBU has been selected to operate Hong Kong’s first Chinese Medicine Hospital, as well as the various funds the University has secured in support of its art-tech and Chinese medicine research projects. Alumni all felt proud of the accomplishments of their alma mater.

Around 60 members of HKBUAAO and guests attend the Annual Dinner.

HKBUAAO aims to connect alumni residing in Ontario through various activities. The latest activity was a webinar themed ‘Living Options in Ontario’ held on 17 November, which introduced different accommodation choices for alumni who have retired or are planning to do so in Ontario.

HKBU Alumni Association of Australia Organises Dinner Gathering

HKBU Alumni Association of Australia (HKBUAA of Australia) organised a dinner gathering at Star Capital Seafood Restaurant, Chatswood, Sydney, on 12 November. The gathering was attended by alumni Sidney Cheng (Communication), President of HKBUAA of Australia and his spouse; Lawrence Chan (Communication), Vice-President of HKBUAA of Australia and his spouse; Professor Edward Fung and his spouse, Clara Cheng (Social Work), Peggy Siu (Secretarial Management) and her spouse Andrew Chan, Augustus Ho (Physics), Henie Tsang (Communication/Secretarial Management), Joe Ng (Accounting), Richard Lam (Communication) and his spouse Mabel Lam, Leung Ting-chun (Civil Engineering) and his spouse Chan Bun-yee (Civil Engineering), Alice Lai (Secretarial Management) and Nicole Wong (Secretarial Management), as well as their family members.

Due to the pandemic, the Association has reduced the frequency of their gatherings in the past year. This event was by no accident well attended by alumni, who all took the opportunity to renew acquaintances and the participants all had a good time during the dinner.

The Association would like to invite alumni, retired and former academic and administrative staff of the University, who are now residing in Australia to join the Association as members, and participate in its events. The sharing session is hosted by President Yu Yafei.

On 31 October, HKBU MBA (China) Alumni Association Shenzhen Chapter organised another session of “BU Talks”. Supported by HKBU Alumni Association of the Greater Bay Area, the talk was held online and received overwhelming response from over 400 alumni and friends. Entitled “The Current Situation and Opportunities of Investment in the Technology Sector on the Mainland”, two investment experts, Mr Wang Haiquan, Founding Partner and Deputy General Manager of Zhengxuan Investment, and alumnus Wu Hao (Business Administration), Founding Partner of VS Partners (Hong Kong) Co Limited, shared with participants their insights and knowledge of the topic. As host of the sharing session, student Yu Yafei (Business Administration), President of the HKBU MBA (China) Alumni Association Shenzhen Chapter, also gave his views on the topic and summarised the views of the guest speakers and participants during the discussion session. The event was well received and participants expressed gratitude for having the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the topic.
