Faculty of Social Sciences Stages a Cantonese Opera Fundraising Show in Support of Its Student Development Endowment Fund

On the occasion of its 50th anniversary, the Faculty of Social Sciences (SOSC) has established, with the support of the Alumni Affairs Office, the Student Development Endowment Fund (SDEF) in March this year with an aim to provide financial support to academically outstanding SOSC students in the areas of overseas exchange/attachment and experiential learning activities, and to provide financial support to needy students.

In order to raise fund for SDEF and to celebrate the 50th anniversary of SOSC, the Faculty staged a fundraising show at the Academic Community Hall on 3 December.

The event is privileged to have Mr Jackie Lo, a community leader, and his wife Mrs Kalen Lo, as the main sponsors. A cheque presentation ceremony was held at the fundraising show. The show was officiated by Mr Jackie Lo; Mr. Paul Poon, Deputy Chairman of the Council and the Court of HKBU; Ms Rosanna Choi, Treasurer of the Council and the Court of HKBU; Professor Alexander Wai, President and Vice-Chancellor; Professor Rick Wong, Interim Provost; Dr Albert Chau, Vice-President (Teaching and Learning); Professor Daniel Lai, Dean of SOSC; Professor Chung Pak-kwong, Associate Dean (Development) of SOSC and Acting Director of Student Affairs. The show was also honoured with the graceful presence of alumnus Wong Nga Chung (Business Management) and alumnus Tyrone Siu (History), President of Hong Kong Baptist University Alumni Association.

In his speech, Prof Rick Wong said HKBU is committed to broadening students’ global vision and enriching their learning experience by providing them with overseas learning opportunities. The fund raised by the show enables students in need to fully realise their potential and pursue outstanding achievements in whole-person education, he added.

The event was well attended by the alumni, students and staff members of the University. They shared the joy of this special occasion and made the show a great success.

Alumni and friends of the Faculty are hereby cordially invited to make a donation to the Student Development Endowment Fund.  Please click here for more details.
