The Eighth Distinguished Alumni Award (DAA) Presentation Ceremony was held on 3 August on HKBU campus in recognition of eminent alumni for their outstanding business, professional or scholarly achievements, as well as their immense contributions to the University and society at large. The four distinguished alumni for this year’s Award are: Professor Chan Wing-kwong (Chinese Medicine), Mr Cheng Tan-shui (Communication), Professor Leo Poon Lit-man (Applied Biology) and Mr Patrick Tsang Shun-fuk (Accounting). A sharing session, “A Dialogue with Distinguished Alumni”, was held right after the Ceremony.

In his welcome remarks, Dr Clement Chen, Chairman of the Council and the Court and Chairman of the DAA Selection Committee, paid tribute to the four Award recipients who are not only assuming a leading role in their profession but also have made significant contributions to society. He encouraged students and young alumni to grasp the opportunity to learn from the successful experience and wisdom of our four distinguished alumni.

In his Vote of Thanks, Professor Alexander Wai, President and Vice-Chancellor, sent his hearty congratulation to the four Award recipients, highlighting the fact that they have all endowed with some common attributes of HKBU graduates and made exemplary achievements of their own, and applied them well in making our community a better place. He also took the opportunity to share the recent achievement and latest development of the University.

As part of the award presentation, video clips highlighting the accomplishments of the Award recipients were shown. The recipients also shared on stage their appreciation towards the University after the trophy presentation by Chairman Chen and President Wai.

The sharing session was moderated by alumnus Professor Ronald Chiu Ying-chun (Communication). The Award recipients shared their captivating career stories, wisdom and experience of their life journeys with a full house of students, alumni and guests. As Mr Cheng Tan-shui was not able to attend the Ceremony, he pre-recorded videos for showing at both the Ceremony and the sharing session. The whole event was also live-broadcast to the HKBU Community.

Prior to the Ceremony, a luncheon was hosted by Chairman Chen at the HKBU Lounge; and was attended by the Award recipients and their families, President Wai, members of the Selection Committee, including Former Executive Director of the Vocational Training Council Dr Carrie Willis and Former Commissioner for Innovation and Technology of HKSAR Government Miss Janet Wong, and the senior management of the University.

The DAA is a signature event of HKBU and is widely recognised and supported by the HKBU Community. The University is thankful to all members of the DAA Selection Committee for their invaluable guidance and strenuous effort throughout the selection process.
