Award-winning Actress Alumna Rachel Leung Shares Insights on Overcoming Adversity at Chill Chat

Students and young alumni gather and enjoy inspirational exchanges.

Organised by the Alumni Affairs Office on 3 April, Chill Chat was successfully held featuring alumna Rachel Leung (Acting for Film and Television) who came to prominence for her acclaimed performance in In Broad Daylight, which won her the Best Supporting Actress award at the 42nd Hong Kong Film Awards and the 17th Asian Film Awards. As the keynote speaker, Rachel shared her insights she gained in the film industry, revealing the challenges she faced and the ways in which she overcame them under the theme “Overcoming Adversity: Lessons from My Journey.”

The event began with a dialogue moderated by Ms Annike Pong, Guest Lecturer of the Academy of Film. Rachel shared unforgettable experiences from her academic journey, and the challenges she faced along her career path, emphasising the importance of self-discovery and maintaining a positive attitude in the face of adversity. She encouraged participants to open themselves up for opportunities as they entered the workplace. Recognising that challenges are unavoidable; she emphasised the importance of upholding one’s conviction in the pursuit of one’s dream. Rachel’s path to success inspired all attendees.

After the sharing, Rachel, together with Annike, Mr Norman Chan, Former Associate Director (Teaching and Learning) of Academy of Film and Mr Eric Tsang, Programme Director of Bachelor of Fine Arts (Hons) in Acting for Global Screen of Academy of Film, took turns to engage with participants in small group dialogue in a relaxing ambience while enjoying dinner.

Chill Chat, firstly introduced in 2021, is an innovative engagement platform where students and alumni can closely interact with each other in a casual setting. Chill Chat provides students and young alumni with the opportunity to widen their horizons in areas of personal growth, career development and network building via close encounters with our eminent alumni at the event.
