HKBU Century Club Stages a Fundraising Screening of “The Shadow Box”

HKBU Century Club staged a fundraising screening “The Shadow Box” directed by alumnus Cheung Che-kwok (Communication) on 29 August at Sunbeam Theatre, North Point. The purpose of the fundraising screening is to raise funds for the Village CARE Campaign of Hong Kong Baptist University in support of its needy students, including first-generation students, ethnic minority students and students with special educational needs. The fundraising screening attracted a full house and successfully raised an amount to name a twin room at Village CARE, due to be completed in 2023.

President Prof. Roland Chin; former President Prof. Ng Ching-Fai; alumnus Dr. Justin Chiu (Sociology); Director alumnus Cheung Che-kwok; President of Century Club and Advisor of the Organising Committee alumnus Kent Tsui (Communication); Member of Century Club and Fundraising Chairman of the Organising Committee alumnus Ip Ka-po (Communication); and Vice-President of Century Club and Executive Chairman of the Organising Committee alumna Yoki Chan (Secretarial Management) officiated at the opening ceremony of the fundraising screening.

At the opening ceremony, the establishment of the Alumni Theatre was also announced. The Alumni Theatre aims at providing a training platform for HKBU alumni and students interested in theatrical performances and other related performing arts. The platform will provide training for participants to help unlock their potentials through this artistic endeavour, hoping that they would, on completion of the training, be able to organise charity shows for their alma mater in the future. The Alumni Theatre was honoured to have secured the consent of drama master and former HKBU faculty staff Dr. Chung King-fai to serve as the Chief Advisor, as well the consent of the following alumni who are veteran performers in the field as Advisors: Cheung Che-kwok, Lawrence Cheng (Communication) and Lo Koon-lan (History). Alumni Kent Tsui and Ip Ka-po have also agreed to serve respectively as the Founder and President of the Alumni Theatre.

A cocktail reception was held prior to the fundraising screening, during which certificates of appreciation were presented to ardent sponsors. In her vote of thanks, Yoki Chan expressed sincere gratitude to various sponsors, supportive alumni, all members of the organising committee and staff of the Alumni Affairs Office, who had all made great contribution to the success of the fundraising screening.
The Fundraising Screening is a big success, drawing a full house of audience.
